Overview

In the heart of the Western Cape's famed Winelands, you can retreat into the elegant cocoon of Angala Boutique Hotel and Guest House. Tucked between rolling farmlands and surrounded by leafy gardens and green lawns, Angala guarantees peace and serenity. In February and March, the vineyards come alive as the fat, sun-ripened grapes are hand-picked from the vines.

Even at this vibrant time, Angala is a space to rejuvenate and restore the mind, body and spirit. Drink in the magnificent views of the Simonsberg and Du Toitskloof Mountains; each room has a patio perfectly positioned to take advantage of the superb scenery. In the warm evenings, linger on the rustic bench overlooking the lake to watch moonrise. The clean lines and elegantly stylish architecture and décor blend to create a holiday haven: think natural materials – wood, marble, granite and bamboo - complemented by soft linens and cottons in a muted palette of stone, ivory, mist and moss.

From here, explore the famed Cape Winelands. Franschhoek is famous for its fine dining and some of South Africa's best restaurants are found in the little village. But there are plenty of other activities, too: in-room spa treatments or the Wine Tram, which meanders through several top estates, are inviting options; for the more adventurous, there is excellent golfing at several courses, or hiking trails and valley walks. Angala is perfect for honeymooners, couples or old friends who want to slow down the pace for a few days…

Rooms

Luxury Suite

Rooms and cottages come in a variety of sizes at Angala Boutique Hotel, starting with the 2-bedroom deluxe suite, which has a private verandah with secluded garden and a separate lounge with fireplace. Together, the two bedrooms sleep a maximum of four people. Each bedroom has an en suite bathroom and a walk-in dressing room.

The luxury suites also offer a private verandah secluded garden, as well as views across the vineyards to the mountains. The extra-large room combines a sitting area and a bedroom, and is warmed by a fireplace. There is an outdoor shower and each suite sleeps two people.

Executive Suite

The executive suites each have a private verandah and secluded garden with a view. Each has a separate lounge with a fireplace and a large bedroom with en suite bathroom comprising a tub, shower and dual basins. There is also an outdoor shower.

Luxury Garden Suite

The self-contained luxury garden suite has a large terrace and a private garden with views of the Simonsberg, as well as a lounge and kitchenette. There is one bedroom with a super king-sized bed, adjustable to twin beds, and a full bathroom with shower, bathtub and dual basins. There is a pull-out sleeper couch in the lounge and the suite sleeps a maximum of four people.

Facilities

The in-room spa treatments are a draw card at Angala Boutique Hotel and Guesthouse. Choose from a variety of professional spa and massaging treatments, all performed in the privacy of your room. The eco pool is a natural alternative to the familiar sparkling blue. The pool recreates the natural filtering process found in mountain streams, rivers and ponds, and is inhabited by water plants.

A large, shaded patio overlooks the small lake, positioned to make the most of the mountain views, which are dusted with snow in the winter months of June, July and August and when curling up next to a fireplace with a glass of South African red wine is the only place to be.

Dining

You are spoilt for choice when it comes to dining in Franschhoek and every meal is a sensation. Many of the estates and wine farms have their own restaurants, and will pack picnic lunches for you to eat on the grounds. But you do not have to venture from the hotel for outstanding meals; Angala's restaurant opens on to its large patio, should you choose to eat in, and breakfasts can be taken in the delightful gardens.
