Overview of Angala Boutique Hotel

South Africa, Franschhoek, Cape Winelands

In the heart of the Western Cape’s famed Winelands, you can retreat into the elegant cocoon of Angala Boutique Hotel. Tucked between rolling farmlands and surrounded by leafy gardens and green lawns, Angala guarantees peace and serenity. In February and March, the vineyards come alive as the fat, sun-ripened grapes are hand-picked from the vines.

Even at this vibrant time, Angala is a space to rejuvenate and restore the mind, body and spirit. Drink in the magnificent views of the Simonsberg and Du Toitskloof Mountains; each room has a patio perfectly positioned to take advantage of the superb scenery. In the warm evenings, linger on the rustic bench overlooking the lake to watch moonrise. The clean lines and elegantly stylish architecture and décor blend to create a holiday haven: think natural materials – wood, marble, granite and bamboo – complemented by soft linens and cottons in a muted palette of stone, ivory, mist and moss.

From here, explore the famed Cape Winelands. Franschhoek is famous for its fine dining and some of South Africa’s best restaurants are found in the little village. But there are plenty of other activities, too: in-room spa treatments or the Wine Tram, which meanders through several top estates, are inviting options; for the more adventurous, there is excellent golfing at several courses, or hiking trails and valley walks. Angala is perfect for honeymooners, couples or old friends who want to slow down the pace for a few days…

General Facilities

The in-room spa treatments are a draw card at Angala Boutique Hotel. Choose from a variety of professional spa and massaging treatments, all performed in the privacy of your room. The eco pool is a natural alternative to the familiar sparkling blue. The pool recreates the natural filtering process found in mountain streams, rivers and ponds, and is inhabited by water plants.

A large, shaded patio overlooks the small lake, positioned to make the most of the mountain views, which are dusted with snow in the winter months of June, July and August and when curling up next to a fireplace with a glass of South African red wine is the only place to be.

You are spoilt for choice when it comes to dining in Franschhoek and every meal is a sensation. Many of the estates and wine farms have their own restaurants, and will pack picnic lunches for you to eat on the grounds. The Angala Boutique Hotel was very well located in the middle of the Paarl-Stellenbosch-Franschhoek triangle. The building itself, the beautiful grounds, the excellent cuisine and the rooms are worthy of its 5-star rating, but the attention to details is not always there, at least not up to the level we experienced in e.g., the Kensington Palace Hotel. This is apparent in small issues such as towels which are not always readily replaced.

The visit to the winelands was spectacular, and the hotel in the middle of the winelands a beautiful experience. We enjoyed all of the activities organised. We were and still are incredibly impressed by the many memories we have of our trip, the experiences we lived, and Loreto and I have agreed to one thing: this was our first trip to Africa, but will not be the last.

A really beautiful property with stunning views of mountains and vineyards. I rather enjoyed the lunch that was served with such amazing class and certainly left my taste buds wanting more. The rooms are beautiful and I would suggest booking a room with an outside bath or shower to enjoy the peaceful and green surrounds. The eco-pool is also a great feature which looks incredibly inviting and clean.

Angala has a homely feel with a touch of luxury. I love the picturesque views of the mountain and it is a tranquil getaway to the Cape Winelands.
