This tranquil and luxurious lodge is located on a beautiful island in the great Zambezi River. An easy drive from Victoria Falls, you can take part in the excitement and adventure of ‘The Smoke that Thunders’ and return to Chundu Island to enjoy complete privacy and unspoilt nature. The riverine woods of the island are sometimes visited by hippo and elephant, and are a permanent home to nyala antelope, monkeys and birdlife including the rare Schalow’s turaco.
On game drives (or even on foot with a trained and experienced guide) you can explore the seasonal beaches, wetlands, forests and grasslands of Zambezi National Park, scouting for wildlife such as buffalo, giraffe, zebra, hyena, rare sable antelope, lion and leopard. Sighting hippo, crocodile and elephant from a canoe or on a sunset cruise is another highlight, as are birding walks in search of rarities like Pel’s fishing owl, African skimmer and African finfoot.
Back on Chundu Island, walk along serene pathways and find a quiet place to relax with your book or cast a line out – the area is home to 75 species of fish including tigerfish and nembwe bream. This is a dreamy spot for honeymooners or couples, especially after a safari in Zimbabwe or neighbouring Zambia.
