Jamala Madikwe Lodge is an outstanding lodge, beautifully decorated and appointed with antique furniture and paintings. Luxury exuded from every corner and to top it all the main deck overlooked a busy waterhole, only about 50 metres away. There was not too much action when we were there because of the rains but enough to keep you interested. We were given the room we requested (No.1) which was nearest the waterhole but as it happened all five rooms were positioned and designed in such a way that they had views of the waterhole. The rooms were stunning. Beautifully furnished and well designed with all the amenities you needed. The property was discreetly fenced so walking around was no problem. Fantastic food which was superbly prepared and presented. There was a choice on the menu with complimentary wine or wine from their cellar. Staff were very friendly, efficient and extremely helpful. The service was excellent and we were treated like royalty. Nothing was any trouble to them to make our stay welcome and comfortable. Our ranger was knowledgeable and good company. Sightings were plentiful. A vast selection of drinks were on offer at our sundowner stops which meant we were able to enjoy whatever we wished on any day. The game drives were in a brand new Land Cruiser which was very comfortable. We would definitely recommend others to stay at this lodge, particularly those looking for something a bit special. Jamala have a sign for ‘Sofa Safaris’ when guests opt to stay at the lodge instead of a game drive in the afternoon, particularly in the dry winter months.
