Ngaga Camp
Set in the virgin rainforest on the edge of the Congo Republic’s Odzala National Park, Ngaga Camp offers visitors the rare opportunity to explore the world’s second-largest rainforest. Balancing comfort for its guests and consideration to its environment in equal measures, this pioneering camp is raised off the forest floor and each of the six bungalows has incredible 360-degree views of the surrounding greenery, alive with exotic birds and inquisitive colobus monkeys.
But it is for a glimpse of the forest's larger primates that Ngaga Camp is best located; guided treks, if you’re lucky, lead to the feeding sites of the forest's greatest (and most elusive) secret: western lowland gorillas. Currently, two gorilla families are habituated to humans, and sometimes allow visitors to stand quietly behind the foliage and watch as hey forage and play.
Ideal for the traveller who is looking for an off-the-beaten track nature experience, Ngaga Camp is best combined with its sister lodge Lango Camp. Set inside Odzala National Park, Lango's main attractions are its saline ‘bais', attracting forest buffalo and if you’re lucky, other forest animals. River excursions at Lango and night walks at Ngaga for nocturnal forest creatures make for a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

Ngaga’s six chalets are set high off the ground to catch the breeze and afford views right into the rainforest. Built from sustainably-sourced timber and raffia and featuring a viewing walkway, each room has mosquito nets and a cooling fan. En suite facilities include a flush toilet and shower, and environmentally-friendly soaps and shampoos are provided to reduce human impact, in keeping with the conservation ethic of the project.
Surrounded by lush emerald rainforest, Ngaga Camp sits high off the forest floor and offers jungle views at every turn. The camp's timber and raffia dining room, lounge and bar look out into the verdant canopy, and the six twin-bedded chalets are reached via raised walkways. A safe, nearby stream offers a place to cool off on a hot day, and the camp's star deck and fire pit make for convivial evenings in the peace of one of Africa's greatest remaining wildernesses.
Designed to have minimal impact on the environment, Ngaga's electricity is provided by solar energy (with a back-up generator if required) which means video and camera batteries as well as laptops can be charged at camp. There is also a laundry service.

Meals at Ngaga Camp are set according to the rhythm of the forest. The day begins early before the heat with coffee served shortly after dawn. Returning after a morning spent in the rainforest, guests enjoy a hearty brunch and refreshing midday siesta before their afternoon excursions.
The camp's bar and fire pit make a welcoming place to end the day at Ngaga and swap stories about the day's sightings before dinner is served in the beautiful dining room. Without many local ingredients to work with and weekly imported ingredients, the team are wonderfully creative to bring you a daily changing set menu.
