Overview

Arguably, 'one of the most luxurious villas in the Indian Ocean', The Presidential Villa at Azura is serenity and seclusion personified.

A haven for rest and relaxation, the property is ideally suited for intimate groups of friends or relatives who are looking for an idyllic and exclusive escape.

Located on Benguerra Island in Mozambique’s Bazaruto Archipelago, the 3-bedroom villa is footsteps from a deserted beach but still incorporates modern pleasures such as a wine bar, media room, Internet access and the services of a private chef and butler. Sleeping up to six in utter tranquillity, the villa also boasts a large infinity swimming pool and a private ‘tree house’ that has sweeping views to Bazaruto Dune.

Whether you choose to look for pansy shells, dive with turtles and dolphins or enjoy guided star-gazing sessions on the beach, The Presidential Villa at Azura offers you that rarest of activities: total relaxation and complete freedom to do as little – or as much – as you please.

Style & Décor

Tall, shaggy thatch roofs peek out of the surrounding beach forest to catch the cooling breezes off the Indian Ocean. Inside, unique pieces like hand-hewn bar stools, other-worldly blue chandeliers and free-form bath tubs create a ‘back to nature’ atmosphere. The timber and natural fibre rooms are accented with powdery tones of blue to resonate with the wide-open sky above you.

Neighbourhood

The Presidential Villa lies within the exclusive Azura Retreat, which is located on the western coast of Mozambique’s Benguerra Island. The second largest island in the Bazaruto Archipelago, Benguerra lies within Bazaruto Marine National Park, which is famous for its unspoilt white beaches and incredible diving sites. Expect schools of graceful manta rays, hundreds of clownfish who look just like Nemo and perhaps – if you are lucky - even a rare dugong.

Azura Retreat also has a pampering spa, unpretentious restaurant, 5-star PADI centre (and specialised diving courses for children), and a fleet of seven boats for cruising around the island.

Suitability

Because of its size and remoteness from the main lodge, The Presidential Villa is ideal for families with young children who want to the freedom to explore in a ‘home away from home’ environment.

Best time to visit

Year-round temperate climes make Benguerra an ideal beach holiday destination. The cooler winter months between April and October enjoy endless blue skies, sunny days and very little rainfall, while the summer months between November to March become hotter and more humid with heavy tropical rain showers. Keep a look out for passing humpback whales between June and October as they migrate to their breedinggrounds and for nesting turtles on the beaches during summer. January to March is the traditional ‘Green Season’ when manta rays return to enjoy the warmer waters.

Special Notes

Benguerra Island has a short, grass airstrip for private planes but pilots should check conditions in advance as it lies within a wetland and may not always be suitable for landing and taking off.

This haven of rest and relaxation is located some 150m down the beach from main Azura, and comes with its own Butler-host and private chef. The 3 bedroom en-suite luxury villa offers all of the mod-cons & facilities one can think of... & indeed some extra, culminating in the beach house of your dreams.
