Overview of Rosenhof Country House

The homey Rosenhof Country House is located near the picturesque town of Oudtshoorn, in South Africa's Klein Karoo. Rosenhof has a pretty garden setting, with tranquil views of the Swartberg Mountain and is an ideal stopover for travellers wanting to see the spectacular Cango Caves or visit some of the Klein Karoo's ostrich farms. The main homestead dates back to 1852 and has been charmingly restored.

Each of the comfortable suites is individually decorated, including two spacious and private executive suites that have their own plunge pools. This small and intimate country guesthouse is perfect for couples and small groups, and offers plenty of luxuries and services including a wellness centre, beauty clinic, an elegant restaurant, and a cosy bar and lounge area.

For those travelling from Cape Town to the Garden Route, Oudtshoorn is a small country town ideal for an overnight stay en route. Enjoy traditional farm-style cuisine, indulge in a treatment at the spa, rent a bicycle and explore the countryside, or simply sit back and with a glass of wine and appreciate the fine mountain views. This area is also home to the beautiful Cango Caves – an underground labyrinth of narrow passageways that open into vast caverns adorned with dazzling stalactites and stalagmites. It is also the ‘ostrich capital of the world' and you can visit a working ostrich farm, feed these large land birds and even ride one!

Executive Suite

There are two executive suites located away from the main farmhouse for extra privacy and space. These suites each have a separate living room, direct access to a private plunge pool, and a generous en suite bathroom with bathtub, shower and marble twin vanities.

Luxury Double Room

The farmhouse has 12 comfortable bedrooms each opening onto a small terrace and a garden courtyard with a central water feature. The individually decorated rooms are adorned with Victorian-chic furnishings and are fitted with air conditioning, heating, satellite TV and a mini-bar. Twin rooms are also available.

General Facilities

The country house consists of a lovingly restored homestead established in 1852 complete with high ceilings and exposed yellowwood beams, antique furnishings, and a cosy set of rooms and suites. Outside, the large communal swimming pool is surrounded by lush manicured gardens and elegant white outdoor furniture. Other facilities include a well-equipped fitness centre, sauna, beauty clinic, and an inviting bar and lounge area.

Enjoy sunny mornings overlooking the gardens accompanied by a delicious breakfast buffet with hot options cooked to order. In the evenings, multi-course meals are served by attentive staff.     Just when you think you have a heavenly place to stay in Knysna, you guys go and seriously up the ante! It doesn't get better than this place! Absolute heaven and a fantastic choice. The rooms/ lodges were gorgeous and as for the pool…I really regretted not booking a massage or treatment in advance but apparently the lady who does it isn't available on Sundays. Something worth noting.

    This was the very good surprise of the holiday. As I said we went there only for the meerkats, but finally it was one of my favourite, both in terms of landscapes and hotel. We saw a lot of photos on trip advisor which again are not really reflecting the quality of the place.

    This was a surprise and we found it a delightful place to stay. Everything about it we enjoyed. Great food and service, a lovely pool area and excellent breakfast buffet with champagne included! Our room was very adequate. They also arranged for us to go and see the meerkat’s in the wild and that really was incredible to be able to walk with them.

    The Rosenhof and the Klippe River guest houses were wonderful. The properties are very nice and comfortable, the staff were very nice and warm and service was very good. The food was good, the Rosenhof has a fantastic breakfast!
