One of Thornybush’s top safari camps, Saseka Tented Camp has been carefully set on the banks of a seasonal river in one of South Africa’s best private reserves, a privately-run conservation area adjacent to the Kruger Park. It is classic Big 5 country, and Saseka’s design means it is suitable for couples on a romantic journey as well as families with children.
It is a small and intimate camp: there are only eight tented suites at Saseka plus a 2-bedroom unit known as the Leadwood Villa. Built to exacting standards and with an eye for detail, each suite overlooks the seasonal Monwana River, which is sometimes sandy and dry, sometimes flowing, but always attractive to wildlife. You can sit on your deck and watch animals and birds between rewarding twice-daily game drives. You will sit back on a specially-designed vehicle in the safe hands of a driver/guide and a sharp-eyed tracker, on the lookout for the Big 5 – lion, leopard, elephant, rhino and buffalo – as well as the other major players of the bush, from hippos to honey badgers.
Back at camp you have designer accommodation to look forward to, complete with air conditioning for perfect temperature control. Slide back the glass doors at the front of your suite and you will find a plunge pool on your private deck, the ideal spot to relax and watch a male weaver bird build an intricate nest or listen to the gentle song of a Burchell’s coucal…
