Saseka Tented Camp

Overview

One of Thornybush’s top safari camps, Saseka Tented Camp has been carefully set on the banks of a seasonal river in one of South Africa’s best private reserves, a privately-run conservation area adjacent to the Kruger Park. It is classic Big 5 country, and Saseka’s design means it is suitable for couples on a romantic journey as well as families with children.

It is a small and intimate camp: there are only eight tented suites at Saseka plus a 2-bedroom unit known as the Leadwood Villa. Built to exacting standards and with an eye for detail, each suite overlooks the seasonal Monwana River, which is sometimes sandy and dry, sometimes flowing, but always attractive to wildlife. You can sit on your deck and watch animals and birds between rewarding twice-daily game drives. You will sit back on a specially-designed vehicle in the safe hands of a driver/guide and a sharp-eyed tracker, on the lookout for the Big 5 – lion, leopard, elephant, rhino and buffalo – as well as the other major players of the bush, from hippos to honey badgers.

Back at camp you have designer accommodation to look forward to, complete with air conditioning for perfect temperature control. Slide back the glass doors at the front of your suite and you will find a plunge pool on your private deck, the ideal spot to relax and watch a male weaver bird build an intricate nest or listen to the gentle song of a Burchell’s coucal…

Rooms

Tent

Each of the eight tented suites at Saseka looks out over the seasonal Monwana River and has been created to deliver luxury under canvas. You enjoy the comforts of air conditioning and the conveniences of Wi-Fi, a mini-bar, hair-dryer and telephone as well as your own bathroom with bathtub and shower. A large net-swathed double bed takes centre stage in the room and boasts broad views of the wilderness outside; open the sliding glass doors and you walk out onto your private viewing deck with sun loungers and a plunge pool.

Leadwood Villa

The Leadwood Villa at Saseka Tented Camp comprises two tents with shared access, a large lounge and dining area and a private deck with plunge pool. Accommodating up to four adults and two children, the villa is perfect for families or a pair of couples travelling together – you will enjoy butler service, meals served at the villa if you prefer and all the privacy you could wish for.

Facilities

Built from stone and timber with thatch roofing, Saseka sits comfortably and unobtrusively on the banks of the Monwana River. The main lodge has a grandstand view of the river, its covered indoor area flowing onto broad wooden decks with easy chairs overlooking the seasonal river below. There is plenty of space to relax and socialise at the main camp – the two large fireplaces are popular in winter, which coincides with peak safari season. A small shop is available if you would like a souvenir of your stay. Wi-Fi is available at Saseka, as is a laundry service.

Dining

You will enjoy three meals a day at Saseka, served at the main lodge either on the main deck or perhaps on the upper deck. If you feel like something a bit more private then your host will be happy to arrange a table for two at your suite. Families and groups staying at the Leadwood Villa have a dedicated dining area for private meals.

All meals are prepared at the lodge and a team of chefs ensures all dietary requirements are catered for, with sufficient notice.
