Shawa Luangwa Camp
Perfectly positioned in the game-rich Nsefu sector of South Luangwa National Park in Zambia, Shawa Luangwa Camp is a luxury tented bush camp overlooking the expansive Luangwa River. A collaboration with head guide and the camp's namesake Jacob Shawa, Shawa Luangwa Camp is a true passion project. Mr. Shawa has been integral in the planning and running of the camp, including handpicking its ideal location. His knowledge, experience, and passion for conservation is tangible throughout, and he has become affectionately known by guests as the Zambian David Attenborough.
A stay at Shawa Luangwa directly supports critical conservation and community projects, and guests are invited to get involved. Visit a local school supported by Project Luangwa, meet the people of the Zambian Carnivore Project which focuses on habitat preservation for large carnivores, and see how the Conservation South Luangwa Teams work along with the community to conserve the wildlife and ecosystem. The camp is completely eco-friendly and solar-run—including electric game vehicles.
Whether out on thrilling walks, game drives, a boat cruise, relaxing at camp, or enjoying delicious meals in the open air, Shawa Luangwa will refresh and enrich the mind and soul. It's the perfect safari for individuals, couples, or families with older children. Groups travelling together can take advantage of the camp's size by booking it on an exclusive-use basis to benefit from the ultimate flexibility. Just a short flight from the iconic Victoria Falls means it can be combined with most African safari circuits.

The luxury tents at Shawa Luangwa are something special. A modern design allows the tents to open seamlessly to the private deck and incredible views beyond. Elevated on stilted platforms and overlooking the vast Luangwa River, it is not uncommon to spot a passing herd of elephants or troop of monkeys from your tent. The lush riverine greenery and tall leafy trees provide natural privacy while keeping you cool and shaded.
Each tent is equipped for a comfortable stay with king-size beds shielded by a mosquito net in the evening, a private bathroom with a shower and individual toilet stall. If the ambiance of the bush and river is not romantic enough, each tent has a sunken bathtub on the deck. Just imagine ending off a long and exciting day of safari with a hot, candle-lit bath, serenaded by the nocturnal symphony of the surrounding bush.
Should you wish to keep your family close, there are two fully equipped tents connected by an elevated deck to accommodate a family.
During the heat of the day, cool off in the swimming pool which overlooks the river – the perfect spot to feel refreshed and look out for passing wildlife. The surrounding trees and nearby permanent water source means that game viewing and birdwatching is exceptional from the comfort of the lodge lounging areas. A well-stocked bar is centrally located to provide refreshment throughout the day.
The camp is solar powered with plug points for charging batteries and Wi-Fi internet access in the main lounge area, keeping you connected when you need to be.
Solar energy also powers the vehicles used on game drives. Aside from being kinder to the environment, electric vehicles enhance the game viewing experience as they are almost silent. This means less chance of startling wildlife at a sighting, and you can tune into more of the natural sounds around you.
