Overview of Anvil Bay
Anvil Bay has a privileged location on Mozambique’s southern coast. It is set, with the lightest of eco-footprints possible, in the Maputo Special Reserve, a conservation area that protects a pristine stretch of tropical coastline and its heavyweight inhabitants: hippo, giraffe, antelope, zebra and even elephants.
Guests at Anvil Bay can enjoy all the attractions of a beach resort such as water sports, diving and snorkelling along with wildlife activities such as whale watching, turtle nesting, bird watching and game viewing – truly combining the best of both worlds. A community-based approach means that your holiday contributes to local development programmes and conservation programmes for a win-win outcome.
Above all, Anvil Bay seeks to deliver a personalised and unforgettable experience in Mozambique. There are only nine timber-and-reed suites (known as ‘casinhas’) at camp, each tucked into shady coastal forest and just a short walk to the beach on the warm Indian Ocean. You can choose to be as active as you like, and the lodge is well equipped to entertain even the most adventurous of families with children. Its exclusive nature also lends itself to romantic journeys and honeymoons, especially in combination with a classic big game safari in the private reserves of the Kruger National Park or kwaZulu-Natal, both in neighbouring South Africa.

Forest Casinha
There are nine timber-and-thatch casinhas at Anvil Bay, hidden away in the coastal dune forest. Radiating an elegant, clean-lined and natural ambience, they are built on stilted wooden decks and each features an en suite bathroom with an indoor and outdoor shower. There is a convenient variety of bed types to choose from to suit your holiday but every casinha comes with a well-stocked mini-bar plus tea-and-coffee facilities.
General Facilities
Anvil Bay is a simple lodge but has everything you need. Its suites are tucked away in coastal forest along with the main area of camp where you will find a comfortable lounge, bar and dining area. There is a laundry service, electricity (convenient for recharging camera batteries and personal devices) and Wi-Fi access in the main camp. The large shaded retreats on the beach are a short walk from your suites and perfect for lazy days under the Mozambican sunshine.

Dining
Your day begins with a breakfast of fresh fruits, cereal, yoghurt, cold meats, cheeses and freshly baked muffins; hot dishes are cooked to order and served on the beach. Later, there is a light lunch to savour, best enjoyed at the beach bar overlooking the ocean, before evening drinks are served on the beach or around a campfire. Dinners are fine affairs, the expert kitchen staff sourcing local seafood and fresh produce to deliver wonderful meals served communally at the main camp or in the privacy of your suite.
The tariff includes all meals, tea, coffee and soft drinks but not alcoholic drinks. Please note that dietary requirements must be confirmed at least two weeks prior to arrival to ensure that your choices are available.

Barefoot luxury at its finest, perfect for young couples looking for a quiet escape. I loved the luxury tents nestled in the forest just a few metres from the beach.
