Overview of Kwando Lagoon Camp

Kwando Lagoon Camp is a tented safari camp located in the Kwando Concession, Botswana’s largest private wildlife reserve. Featuring only eight traditionally-styled tents overlooking the waterway, Kwando Lagoon provides an intimate stay and personalised service.

Activities include game drives in open game viewing vehicles (the afternoon drive incorporates a night drive), boating on the river and walking with a professional guide. Guests here can enjoy the benefits of exclusive access to a remote wilderness where lion, elephant, buffalo, leopard, cheetah, wild dog and sable are regularly sighted, and bird life is abundant.

Exceeded expectations. Lovely large private “suite”, directly overlooking the river. Delicious lunch. After relax in the small plunge pool by the river’s edge and watch the abundant wildlife, birds and reptiles go by and /or nap. Guides were very knowledgeable, friendly, helpful and professional. The camp staff were delightful. Evening meals were delicious with each night different. The food was top quality. Location is beautiful. All this is nice, but the key criteria was the wildlife: the animal and bird sightings were outstanding.

We saw wild dogs chasing an impala, which happily escaped, before they in turn were charged by an elephant into whose path they had intruded. We also had an extended and clear off-piste sighting of a leopard, and during one of our afternoon rest periods had an elephant a metre or so from our hut. Never in our previous three safaris had we ever even seen a snake – this time we saw three of the best, a cape cobra, a black mamba and a boomslang, all close too. We were also blessed by guides and trackers who were informative, helpful and friendly, as indeed were all the staff. At both camps we were impressed by standards of care and cleanliness, and by the quality of the food.

We finished our trip in Botswana. It’s hard to believe that only a week ago it was my birthday (thank you for the birthday wishes!) and we were in the Delta. It feels a world away. We loved both camps, Kwara and Kwando Lagoon. We saw amazing wildlife, the highlight was seeing wild dogs on almost every game drive, and large packs of 28 in Kwara and 21 in Lagoon. As we had gone to these camps specifically to see the dogs it was so great to see them. We also saw several which we hadn’t seen properly in the wild before. On the morning of my birthday we did a Mokoro trip in the Delta which was so relaxing and peaceful. And the boat trips at both camps were fantastic.
So overall a totally amazing and unforgettable experience. Thank you so much for helping to organise this for us and put it all together, you did an amazing job.

Camp is well run by Lesso. A noticeable change from Nxai Pan. Food was excellent. Lebala is more noted for birds and hippos. Sunsets were magnificent. Elephants and hippos walked through the camp at night (and sometimes during the day also)

Everything happened as expected. We had wonderful experiences from the time we left our big cases at OR Tambo airport, to arriving back 7 days later. We loved the lion walk, bought a video, and were almost at the Botswana border before we realised we hadn’t picked it up from the hotel. It was a beautiful natural camp along a stream.
