Linyanti Safari

Botswana’s Linyanti region is fast becoming one of Southern Africa’s prime game viewing destinations. Lodged between the Okavango Delta, the Chobe National Park and Namibia’s Caprivi Strip, this wild and very remote area comprises three private wildlife reserves – Linyanti, Selinda and Kwando – and access is limited to those visitors who have booked accommodation at one of the few private lodges in the region.

Once part of a great inland lake, the area is dominated by water habitats. Its wide, permanent rivers and sprawling floodplains not only support a wide range of wildlife that matches that of the Okavango Delta but provide one of Southern Africa’s best bird watching destinations as well – expect many regional rarities and superb raptors.

Such an abundance of game makes a Linyanti safari a year-round option. Hippo and crocodile line the river banks, large herds of elephant and buffalo are often seen and predators are particularly well represented: all the big cats are resident and Linyanti has a global reputation for excellent wild dog sightings.

It is however during the June to October dry season that area fully deserves its accolades. Animals migrate to the Linyanti wetlands from the surrounding dry woodlands in increasing numbers as the winter drought wears on and there are high concentrations of game – especially elephant – along the river with predator sightings a virtual daily occurrence.

Morning and afternoon game drives will deliver excellent game viewing experiences and since the Linyanti, Selinda and Kwando reserves are privately-managed, you’ll be treated to off-road driving for close-up encounters as well as exciting night drives and guided nature walks. Game viewing by motor boat and sunset cruises complete the range of safari activities available at the lodges.
