Itinerary
Day to day
Upon arriving at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, you’ll be swiftly transferred to Nairobi Tented Camp, nestled within Nairobi National Park. Not only is it Kenya’s oldest official reserve, but it’s also the largest protected area globally in such close proximity to a city centre. The park’s significance extends to being a principal rhino sanctuary and a haven for bird enthusiasts, hosting over 300 species, including migratory birds in March and April.
Your comfortable canvas tent features an en suite bathroom with fire-heated showers, offering a cosy ambience. Your veranda overlooks the valley and acacia forest, providing a contemplative retreat. Choose between an expertly guided 4×4 game drive or a visit to the Daphne Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage, a renowned centre for orphan elephant rescue and rehabilitation, contributing to the successful reintegration of over 150 infant elephants into the wild. This experience does need to be pre-booked.
After breakfast, head back to Wilson Airport in Nairobi for your light aircraft flight to Porini Amboseli. Escape the hordes of tourists when you settle into Porini’s tented camp in this private conservancy.
Awake to the pleasing aroma of coffee and biscuits before setting off on your safari activity. Back at camp, enjoy a delicious meal under an Acacia tree while marvelling at the snow-capped peaks of Mt. Kilimanjaro. The afternoon game drive stops at a stunning viewpoint for sundowners before continuing as a night drive. A thrilling opportunity to see nocturnal predators on the prowl for dinner. Return to camp where your delightful dinner awaits in the charming mess tent.
After an expertly prepared bush breakfast, transfer to the Selenkay Airstrip to catch your light aircraft flight to Wilson Airport. From here, head to your next game viewing springboard – Porini Mara. This modest camp is situated in the Ol Kinyei Conservancy surrounded by thriving savannah plains, riverine forests, rolling hills and tranquil rivers.
Encounter Maasai in traditional garb, who share their incredible knowledge about the land and wildlife on up-close and intimate nature walks. Enhance your game viewing experience in Porini’s classic safari vehicle (not a minibus) or soar above the plains in a hot-air balloon.
Return to camp and a warm welcome from the camp manager before freshening up in your en suite tent. Enjoy a delicious sundowner on the bank of the Laetoli River before tucking into a delicious meal prepared with the freshest ingredients, served by friendly staff.
Today, you drive to Olare Orok Conservancy where Porini Lion Camp awaits you on the banks of the Ntiakatiek River. The area is renowned for extensive predator and big game sightings, including elusive leopard and a variety of graceful antelope.
Visit during the dry months of August and September to witness the annual spectacle of wildebeest migrating to the dryer areas of Kenya in search of tender new grass shoots. After a day of exploring Kenya’s jewel, the neighbouring Masai Mara, swop campfire tales with your fellow adventurers in the traditional boma.
It is time to say farewell to the friendly staff and fellow travellers who have shared your adventure. Head back to Nairobi Airport via Wilson Airport to begin your journey home, carrying with you the precious memories of the sights and sounds of Amboseli. Close your eyes and recall the stories shared beside a crackling campfire underneath the vast African sky.

Porini Camps offer you an authentic safari experience, bringing you closer to wildlife and local culture. The 3 camps offer a good contrast and excellent wildlife viewing. I loved the village visit at Amboseli Porini Camp, I think it's a must do!
