Lake Kivu Serena Hotel is set overlooking one of the Africa's Great Lakes, Lake Kivu, which is known for its lovely beaches and safe swimming waters. Lake Kivu is the perfect place to unwind after a gorilla-trekking safari at Volcanoes National Park, and it is roughly an hours' drive between these two destinations. The breath-taking scenery from the hotel's private shore encompasses endless waters and emerald-green mountains in the distance which are often blanketed with mist, even on a sunny day. The inviting lake shore is located just few steps beyond the hotel's large swimming pool.
From the sandy beaches you can enjoy swimming in the warm waters of the lake, and go boating or canoeing. You can also visit Idjwi Island in the middle of the lake, visit hot springs, crystal-clear swimming areas, or try traditional night fishing. The Maisha Health Centre, which is located at the hotel, offers a range of rejuvenating relaxation and beauty therapies that are helpful in recuperating from an arduous gorilla trek. There is also a variety of sports and active adventures to enjoy including volleyball, tennis and hiking. The hotel offers comfortable and unfussy accommodation that is suitable for both families and couples.

Fridays are a festive celebration with lovely barbeque dinners enjoyed at Ziwani Café, which is located between the pool and the beach. The Kiyaga Restaurant is the hotel's main dining venue, overlooking the lake and serving extensive breakfast buffets, buffet or à la carte lunch and dinners. Colourful theme nights are often held and the restaurant offers traditional Rwandan cuisine and African dishes as well as international favourites. You also have the convenience of 24-hour room service – perfect for late arrivals and quick snacks.
