Overview of Oliver’s Camp

Oliver’s Camp is situated in the exclusive and little-visited south-east region of the beautiful Tarangire National Park and offers an authentic African safari experience with the advantage of superior service and top quality guiding. With beautifully appointed tents available, Oliver’s delivers exclusivity in an area famous for its large numbers of elephants and big cats, while its wetland location produces excellent bird sightings.

Daily game drives showcase the spectacular wildlife of Tarangire, at no time more than from August to October when incredibly high concentrations of animals are found at nearby water sources. The camp also specialises in guided walking safaris, offering you the privilege of exploring a remote corner of Tarangire on foot with expert guides and a park ranger.

Make a Positive Impact Through Travel

Asilia empowers crucial wilderness areas in East Africa, benefitting people and nature alike. By making bold, and often pioneering, investments into areas that are ecologically and economically vulnerable, Asilia aims to turn these areas into viable conservation economies, benefitting both the local communities as well as the environment. With the help of guests, who contribute a levy of US$ 5 for each night that they stay at an Asilia property, Asilia is able to make a significant positive impact towards their goal of empowering these areas, including the communities and wildlife that call them home.

Oliver’s Camp was outstanding, Baraka and his staff were very welcoming and couldn’t do enough for you. The tents were lovely and the outside shower a must. The food was excellent and we enjoyed the walking and night safari’s. Our tour guide Baraza made our trip, he was incredible, amazing at spotting animals, had extensive knowledge of all animals and had a unique ability in anticipating their movements, we saw lions hunting and killing their pray, and learnt so much, about life in Africa and the different cultures, thanks to him. I can definitely highly recommend Baraza as a tour guide.

I think the best camp was Oliver’s with delicious food. Bryony and Michael couldn’t leave their lodge on the last morning because 8 elephants were outside – that was such fun!

Our 1st guide for the first 4 days was” Fazo”. He made our trip. He was the most incredible man and I would not go back to Tanzania without having him as our guide. Please be sure to mention him to Asilia…I know I will. The time we spent at “Olivers Camp” was amazing. Our absolute favourite place. I have to mention Justin and Jacky as being great host’s..We felt we had a great connection with both of them. And our guide for our walking safari, Lewis, was up there as #1 along with Fazo. The walking safari was probably the most interesting thing we did and Lewis was the main reason.

They took a lot of trouble with the food which was very good. We loved the communal dining, all at one big table and we enjoyed talking to the other guests. The staff were a nice friendly group. We would have liked internal telephones. The tents were quite far apart and we were not allowed out after dark without an escort, so there was no means of communication if we needed it. We all suffered nasty bites from tsetse flies here, in spite of using anti-bite spray. Good vehicle: Fixed roof but completely open sides. Excellent guide/driver, Mesenga. He had an amazing knowledge of the birds and could imitate many of their calls and songs.

Olivers was fabulous. Alex, Simon and the entire staff were delightful. The ‘tents’ were terrific, luxurious-since it was our first, I was thrilled-just what I’d hoped for. The bathrooms were outside, mostly, and were so nicely designed and worked it was fun!

Oliver’s Camp was fantastic. It was our favorite tent. It had the Africa safari feel that we love. Your advice to do fly camping was the best. It was a highlight of the trip (even before the lion walked into the fly camp at dinner time). Everyone should do that. It’s just so “Out of Africa”. You really feel surrounded by nature and very much a part of it, even more so than in a relatively small camp like Oliver’s. I wanted to move to the fly camp and live there.

Great safaris, honestly. We actually found ourselves in the middle of the migration! At Tarangire : Fazo was surprised that there still were that many elephants at that time of year, not to mention that we saw leopards and many lions.

The choice of Olivers, Olikari, and Sayari was exactly what I wanted in tented camps. They were definitely as good as advertised and provided the “Out of Africa” experience that I was hoping for. The accommodations provided us more than enough comfort and space. Each camps tents, as well as the central dining and reception areas was configured in different ways so that we felt we were having a unique experience at each one. At each of these camps the service was outstanding and available at all times.

At Sayari, the game drive leading up to sunset was a special experience. Wining and dining off the hood of a land rover as the sun was setting and surrounded by all these animals was especially memorable. We didn’t know if our timing was going to work out for the Wildebeest migration but as it turned out they were there in the thousands and we saw a water crossing. Also saw a herd of elephants crossing the Mara River. Still can hear that incessant grunting of the Wildebeest, especially outside our tent one night.
