Overview

Located in a grassy clearing within the dense forests of the Congo Basin – home to the second largest rainforest in the world – Mboko Camp is a small and intimate lodge offering access to the wildlife and wonder of Odzala-Kokoua National Park. From here you can explore a multitude of habitats from dense forest on the hillside and gallery forests near the river to swampy grasslands where animals come to obtain their salts and minerals from the soil.

Mboko Camp is located in a clearing at the riverside and forest buffalo, bushbuck and putty-nose monkeys are regular visitors to the area. Gliding down the river in a canoe is a serene way of exploring the forest and shy forest elephant, hippo, crocodile, primates and forest ducks can be sighted.

With a skilled local guide, you can enter the forest on foot to track primates and apes like western lowland gorillas, chimpanzees and red-tailed monkeys as well as bongo and other antelope. As you walk under the canopy, your guide will introduce you to ancient trees that are over 15 storeys high, clouds of butterflies, some 430 bird species and 100 mammal species, orchids and other flowers, fruits, pods and fungi. You may, if you are very lucky, even spot signs of rare leopard and giant forest hog.

With the unusual location between the Savannah and a River inside the Congo’s Odzala-Kokoua National Park, Mboko Camp offer activities suited to the area. A large number of different walks, including walking in the knee deep water as well as adventure trails are complemented by boating trips down the Lekoli River and of course the regular game drives. Apart from forest buffalo and forest elephants, you might also see the putty nose monkey and dwarf crocodiles to name but a few. Overall, a great option for guests who enjoy being active!
