Okahirongo Elephant Lodge is set in one of Namibia's most remote destinations: the Purros Conservancy in the dramatic Kaokoland area, deep in far north Namibia and home to the striking and enigmatic Himba people. The uniquely designed terracotta lodge and cottages are decorated in a rich and sensuous fusion of pastel colours with ethnic touches and locally carved furnishing adding to the ambience.

Take in the spectacular wrap-around views of the river bed, stark desert scenery and distant purple mountains but the highlight of your stay will be venturing out into the wild desert on professionally guided morning and afternoon nature drives in open 4x4 vehicles in search of unique desert animals. Night drives under spectacular starry skies, early morning desert walks and cultural visits to the local Himba village are also memorable experiences. Okahirongo Elephant Lodge works closely with the Desert Lion Project to conserve Namibia's beautiful and uniquely desert-adapted big cats.

Standard Room

The seven chalets at Okahirongo Elephant Lodge have a spacious private gazebo with a queen-size day bed, so you can relax in elegant comfort after a day's desert safari activities or gaze at the stars of the night sky. The large en suite bathrooms are fitted with a bath tub that overlooks the magnificent desert surroundings and have an indoor as well as an outdoor shower. Note bathrooms are in a separate hut, connected to the rooms by an outdoor wooden walkway.

Presidential Suite

With the luxury of space, The Presidential Suite boasts two en suite bedrooms joined by a central lounge area that leads out to the private deck with incredible views from the comfortable day beds under the gazebo.

Linked by wooden walkways, the open-sided lounge areas, library and dining areas allow the soft breezes to drift over you as you relax with magnificent desert views.

Spend your time between game drives lazing around the infinity pool, reading a book in the cool comfort of the library or just relax in the shade of your shaded day beds.

The menu at Okahirongo Elephant Lodge changes daily and serves a delicious fusion of Italian and African cuisine with much of the fresh produce coming from the lodge's organic garden. In the evening, enjoy dinner by candlelight in one of the two airy dining rooms, on the terrace by the pool or under the African night sky around a log fire in the traditional African boma.
