Flights & Getting Around

Pemba Airport: fly into the archipelago’s mainland airport from Johannesburg‘s O R Tambo, Tanzania’s Dar es Salaam or Kenya’s Nairobi International – such connections make for great South or East African safari combinations.

Flights generally land in Pemba around lunch, leaving more than enough time to catch a light aircraft or helicopter directly to the Quirimbas Island of your choice. The islands are all small and can easily be walked around.

Top Travel Tips for the Quirimbas

Take a reminder: While on Ibo, be sure to buy some of the fine silver jewellery made by local silversmiths.

Made for romance: The Quirimbas are more remote and less family-friendly than Mozambique’s Bazaruto Archipelago – making the glittering Quirimbas islands the perfect choice for a romantic getaway.

Catch the sunset: It would be foolish to travel to the Quirimbas Archipelago and not take a day trip or a sunset cruise on a traditional sailing dhow.
