Depart from Arusha in the morning and travel through the Maasai town of Mtu Wa Mbu (Mosquito River). Continue up the Rift Valley Escarpment to Karatu, a village that offers fantastic views over the surrounding hills and wheat farms. Spend the evening here, in a pleasant campsite.
An early departure the following morning will bring you to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area from which you'll descend the 600m crater to go on game drives on this diverse crater floor and World Heritage Site. Drive through swamps, woodlands, forests and grasslands as you search this wildlife abundant region for the Big 5.
Ascend to the crater rim and drive past the Cradle of Mankind on your way to the Serengeti National Park. Spend the afternoon on a game drive through the southern and central areas of the park, exploring the vast Serengeti savannah and its abundant herds of plains game. If you happen to visit between May and October, you'll get the memorable chance to witness the Great Migration, when thousands of wildebeest trek across the plains. Your guide will pick out a suitable spot where you'll camp this evening, immersed in the heart of the Serengeti bush.
The next morning you'll go on yet another game drive to search for the Big 5 before crossing back across the Ngorongoro Crater to Arusha where you'll rejoin the group and share stories of your adventures.
