This 10-day adventure will bring you to the most magnificent wildlife-viewing destinations in Tanzania before you jet off for three nights on the tropical island of Zanzibar.

Start you journey by exploring the vast plains of the Serengeti and the spectacular floor of the Ngorongoro Crater as you search for the Big 5 and marvel at the abundant plains game. Drive across the beautiful country and watch the landscape transform as you head to Dar es Salaam, a vibrant town on the East Coast.

From here, depart to Zanzibar to spend three days indulging in all the pleasures that this piece of paradise has to offer.

Detailed breakdown

Day 1: Arrive in Arusha | 9 Nights

Depart from Kenya's capital of Nairobi and drive south, crossing the border into Tanzania at Namanga and continuing to Arusha. This vibrant town is known as the safari capital of Tanzania and is situated in the shadow of Mount Meru.

It is also the starting point for an exciting optional excursion to the Ngorongoro Crater and the Serengeti. These excursions will be conducted in fully-equipped, locally-operated 4x4 vehicles, which are specially adapted for safari use.

Days 2-4: Descend the Ngorongoro Crater

Depart from Arusha in the morning and travel through the Maasai town of Mtu Wa Mbu (Mosquito River). Continue up the Rift Valley Escarpment to Karatu, a village that offers fantastic views over the surrounding hills and wheat farms. Spend the evening here, in a pleasant campsite.

An early departure the following morning will bring you to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area from which you'll descend the 600m crater to go on game drives on this diverse crater floor and World Heritage Site. Drive through swamps, woodlands, forests and grasslands as you search this wildlife abundant region for the Big 5.

Ascend to the crater rim and drive past the Cradle of Mankind on your way to the Serengeti National Park. Spend the afternoon on a game drive through the southern and central areas of the park, exploring the vast Serengeti savannah and its abundant herds of plains game. If you happen to visit between May and October, you'll get the memorable chance to witness the Great Migration, when thousands of wildebeest trek across the plains. Your guide will pick out a suitable spot where you'll camp this evening, immersed in the heart of the Serengeti bush.

The next morning you'll go on yet another game drive to search for the Big 5 before crossing back across the Ngorongoro Crater to Arusha where you'll rejoin the group and share stories of your adventures.

Day 5: Travel across the country

Leave Arusha behind the next morning as you head towards the coast. Pass through the town of Moshi and cross the southern slopes of the highest mountain in Africa - Mount Kilimanjaro. If the weather plays along, you might even catch a glimpse of its snowy summit.

Continuing south you pass the Usambara and Pare mountain ranges and sit back to enjoy the views of the vast sisal plantations before reaching your campsite at Pangani, midway between Arusha and Dar es Salaam.

Day 6: Arrive at the coast

Today you can relax and enjoy another long drive through the lush scenery and dense palm trees that are characteristic of this region. Enter the outskirts of Dar es Salaam and get your first taste of this vibrant and bustling coastal town as you observe the many colourful shop-fronts. Arrive at your seaside campsite in the northern part of the city and take the evening to prepare for your exciting trip to Zanzibar.

Days 7-9: Enjoy island living

This morning you will board a ferry to the famous Spice Island to spend the next three nights immersed in these exotic surrounds.

Spend the following days relaxing on the endless sandy beaches or swimming in the warm Indian Ocean. Explore these clear waters further by going scuba diving on snorkelling, or taking a trip on a glass-bottomed boat.

Explore the old Stone Town and admire the Medina-like shop fronts and palaces of Sultans.Learn more about the island's significant spice history as you go on an excursion to visit these plantations or take a trip to Prison Island to see the giant tortoise. Take trips on traditional fishing dhows or hire a moped to explore the island's more remote regions.

Sit down in the evenings to deliciously prepared seafood dishes as you join the locals at the Forodhani Gardens seafront market.

Day 10: End your journey in Dar

After one last morning to indulge in island living, you'll depart from Zanzibar and head back to Dar es Salaam. Here your tour will come to an end.
