Overview of Rhino River Camp
Forest habitats are rarely associated with Kenya’s wilderness areas, meaning that the leafy grove in which Rhino River Camp is found, makes this an especially charming destination. With the slow-flowing Kindani River trickling past, Rhino River Camp is a sanctuary of quiet. It lies just outside the western border of the Meru National Park, in a 32-hectare private concession that is conveniently located close to the park’s dedicated rhino sanctuary. This is Big Five game country, and there are healthy populations of Africa’s famed big cats: lion, cheetah and leopard.
This part of the world has a long history of conservation and environmentalism and using this camp as your base, you can visit the Meru National Park and learn about Elsa the lioness, the inspiration of the book and film, ‘Born Free’. The park also experiences relatively low visitor numbers, making this an intimate safari experience, away from the crowds. You will also have the great fortune of seeing rhinos up-close at a sanctuary that has been instrumental in remedying the situation of no rhino being present in the park – no small feat and a true conservation success story.
While staying at Rhino River Camp, you can join on game drives, guided walks, mountain biking excursions, or hike this wild landscape. For those in search of cultural pursuits, the camp is very supportive of the local community and village visits can be arranged.

River View Tent
The Riverside Tents are uniquely designed canvas tents that are built on wooden decks, suspend among the trees of a pristine forest edging the Kindani River. The tents are spacious and blend harmoniously into the landscape. Two of these tents are tucked deep into the forest, away from the sounds of river’s running waters. Some of the tents also feature a private ‘zen’ area where you can while away leisure hours reading, unwinding, and meditating.
Family Tents
One Family Tent is over 100 square meters (330 square feet) and features a master bedroom, a sitting room (that can double up as a second bedroom for kids), two bathrooms and a spacious balcony. It is situated along the river and is surrounded by huge raffia palms. The second Family Tent comprises two adjacent tents that are joined by a veranda and the second tend is smaller than the main and can accommodate up to three kids.
General Facilities
Rhino River Camp is surrounded by Raffia Palms and looks out over the river. The main lounge, dining and library areas offer peaceful spots to relax in between game drives. There’s also a lovely bar area where you can revel in a famed African sunset while sipping on a cocktail. During the day, when you aren’t exploring the wilds, take a dip in the swimming pool right by a tranquil stream, or enjoy a pampering massage.

Dining
One of the highlights of a stay at Rhino River Camp is its cuisine. Meals take their inspiration from Italy, with each dish featuring the freshest ingredients. Part of the dining experience is the ambience of where you eat, and you can choose from the dining area, poolside, the privacy of your own tent, or right in the bush.

The guides are excellent and work hard to ensure you enjoy a super wildlife experience. Romantic, private and relaxing, different to anything else you will experience in Kenya.
