Overview of Kanga Camp

Situated in a crowd-free private concession within Mana Pools in northern Zimbabwe, rustic Kanga Bush Camp offers a truly exclusive, authentic safari experience in this untouched wilderness. The camp is set inland from the Lower Zambezi River, overlooking the Kanga Pan which provides a regular watering point for a wide range of game and birds, including elephants and wild dog, fish eagles and storks.

Mana Pools is one of Africa’s most pristine parks. Besides Kanga’s resident lion pride and superb Big 5 sightings, you can expect thrilling safari experiences from the comfort of the viewing deck, without even leaving camp. Kanga Bush Camp offers the rare opportunity to engage with an untamed wilderness up close with the warm hospitality that has made Zimbabwe safaris famous.

    Standard Tent

The six meru-style tents are located under jackalberry trees on raised decks for an elevated view of Kanga Pan. These accommodate a maximum of 12 guests at a time, and include two honeymoon suites.

Each tent has its own private veranda and open-air outdoor bathroom comprising a flush toilet and rustic shower, as well as a washbasin with hot and cold running water. There is no roof over the bathroom – the whole of it is open to the sky and birdsong, which makes for very charming ablutions.

    General Facilities

The main relaxation area is built on raised decking, under the shade of ancient Jackalberry trees. It overlooks the splash pool and Kanga pan, where abundant game can be viewed. Underneath the decking of the main lodge there is a hide with two arm chairs that allow you to view game activity over the pan.

‘Kanga Camp was really nice and we thought that it might have been nice to spend additional time there, although as our trip through Africa continued, I think that we probably figured that there are other places just as nice. The bush around Kanga is a little thick to be able to find any good game of significance, but there are certainly animals around. The rain was apparently a little late this year, so the waterholes everywhere are still relatively full (including the lagoon at Kanga) which meant that the animals had plenty of other opportunities rather than congregating at the Kanga lagoon. We were surprised that Kanga was as far as it is from the meeting point for the canoe trip – around two hours by road. This trip was treated as a game drive.’
