About Me

I've lived in Cape Town, London, Wisconsin and Vermont but always found myself returning to Africa! I love photography, fine dining, working with enthusiastic and friendly people, travelling as much as possible and trying to visit a new place every year. Now that we have a baby, we are starting to concentrate on more family-friendly breaks that are easily accessible from Cape Town.

My passion for travel began with postcards being sent to me from all corners of the world from my father who was in the Merchant Navy. I was introduced to new places on a monthly basis and my own travels began when I left school and started exploring Africa and the world.

Where have I travelled

My latest trip took me to Singita Lebombo and Sweni, located in the Greater Kruger area. We enjoyed some fantastic bird sightings, tracked elephants and enjoyed the truly outstanding hospitality and impeccable service that Singita is known for, nothing was too much trouble.

In South Africa I’ve been to the Garden Route many times, Kruger National Park (Kapama Game Reserve, Singita Private Concession and the Sabi Sands included), and kwaZulu-Natal (Phinda Private Reserve).

In the rest of Africa, the list continues to grow, from Botswana, Mozambique, Namibia, Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe, Uganda, Congo, Kenya, Tanzania, Zanzibar to Egypt.

Internationally, I’ve made my way around the USA, Canada, England, Ireland, Scotland, France, Holland, Greece, Madeira, Norway, Italy, the Vatican City, Germany, Singapore, Australia and New Zealand.

My favourite travel moment

It is so hard to pick one, I have to mention three. Firstly, seeing wild dog for the first time in Samburu, soaring above the Masai Mara in a hot-air balloon and my hour with the mountain gorillas in Uganda's Bwindi Impenetrable Forest have been some of my most memorable experiences.

What I love about Africa

Its diversity and friendly people!

My best African travel advice

Always take wet wipes with you on safari, a smile, and consider each African experience - whether it is a flat tyre or an impromptu musical karaoke night with the locals - as an adventure to remember.

Where I'd love to go next

A beach break on one of the Indian Ocean islands like Mauritius or the Seychelles.
