Overview of andBeyond Bateleur Camp

Kenya, Masai Mara

Bateleur Camp nestles in the cool shade of a forest in the Western Mara, on the edge of the Masai Mara's endless plains. Its location is so superb that it was used for the iconic closing scenes of the film Out of Africa.

Eighteen opulent, tented suites are situated to make the most of the awe-inspiring landscape. The camp's communal spaces are comfortable, spacious and inviting, from the cool veranda to the sparkling pool. The quietly attentive service of your personal butler is a welcome indulgence. Bateleur Camp offers an authentic African safari experience with thoughtful contemporary touches.

Year-round Big 5 game viewing and the spectacular Great Migration are best experienced on early morning and late afternoon game drives. Guided bush walks provide a more intimate portrait of the land, while thrilling, spot-lit night drives uncover the Mara's rich nocturnal life. An early morning hot-air balloon ride over the plains is highly recommended.

It was absolutely exceptional. We were so lucky with the weather, and with our wildlife sightings, all of the Big 5 plus the three big cats (and in fact, not just one leopard, but three, and a cheetah), and pretty much all of the animals had babies. We were surprised how lush and green everything was- with so many gorgeous butterflies and little birds!

The lodge was stunning, and the location was great – we had a hyena burrow on the way out and so every night we saw the hyena cubs, and we had bush babies out in the tree next to our terrace, and a warthog that hung around the restaurant area at lunchtimes. The real highlight of the camp was the staff though, they were all so friendly and welcoming, and all the little treats made us feel so special and taken care of, I couldn't praise them highly enough!

We had such a great time. The Masai exceeding our expectations and the safari was beautiful! I couldn’t be more pleased with the services and facilities at andBeyond’s Bateleur Camp. The location was breathtaking and the amenities were great. The hotel itself was decorated beautifully and really glamorized our experience. The staff was impeccable, our guide in particular was very hands on and attentive in helping us learn about and discover the area. The food was also amazing! I’ve never visited a more beautiful place with better staff and service!

Situated within a private concession so they offer night drives as well the possibility of a bush breakfast or dinner depending on the weather. The camp itself is very intimate and offers a fully inclusive experience and lovely spacious rooms!

The camp was spectacular and we had many a wonderful game drive and a welcome home every time. Great food, beautifully appointed tent and great staff.
We had sightings of a lion mother with cubs on a kill, a lioness walking up the road with her tiny 3 new cubs, giraffe with a baby, lots of elephants with lots of baby’s, hyena den with lots of baby’s, etc. etc. The only disappointment being that the migration was a month late – so wasn’t really happening. We arrived at the banks of the Mara river to what looked like a shopping centre car park – so many vehicles you could not get parked. Some wildebeest were on the other side and would venture down to the edge of the water, look at the crocodiles, and turn back. Can’t say I blame them. We came a couple of times and waited, but it was a waste of time, so we never came back. The game drives made up for the disappointment. Finally, the Hot Air Balloon trip was fantastic, as was the breakfast out on the plain. What an experience

It was a good trip overall and the Bateleur camp was amazing. Our high expectations were exceeded and the few days we had in the Mara were terrific. It was a wonderful experience.
