Benguerra Island Lodge
Situated on the protected north-west coast of Benguerra Island, this laid-back beach hotel is sheltered by a natural acacia forest and bordered by the crystal-clear waters of Benguerra Bay. Lying on the second largest island in the Bazaruto Archipelago, Benguerra Island Lodge offers genuine hospitality and personalised service – all that you need to do is relax and enjoy your holiday.
Go scuba diving and snorkelling at Two Mile Reef, an amazing underwater world of colour and form. One of the other main attractions is world-class deep-sea and saltwater fly-fishing. Alternatively, just stretch out in the shade of your thatched sala on the stunning white sandy beach, go exploring in a sea kayak, take an island tour, or jump on a boat to Pansy Island, which is a breeding ground for the legendary pansy shell and is only exposed at low tide.
Benguerra Island was declared a national park in 1971 and is home to 140 bird species and Africa’s last remaining population of dugong. There is excellent catch-and-release game angling for marlin, bonito, sailfish and giant trevally.

Benguerra Island has 10 casinhas, two cabanas and a luxurious 3-bedroom villa called Casa Familia.
Set right on the beach are the two cabanas: these romantic and elegant accommodations have queen-sized beds, large en suite bathrooms with separate tubs, as well as indoor and outdoor showers, and private decks with Jacuzzi plunge pools.
The 10 casinhas are also set along the beach. These spacious and luxurious suites have a ‘home away from home’ feel with comfortable open-plan lounge areas and shuttered windows to keep out the midday sun. Each has a very large timber deck with a plunge pool, fantastic sea views and an outdoor thatched gazebo for starlit dinners.
The 3-bedroom and very exclusive Casa Familia villa is set away from the rest of the lodge and is an excellent option for those seeking total privacy. Each room has a double bed and en suite bathroom with a bathtub and outdoor shower. A personal chef prepares all your meals, which can be enjoyed in the lounge and dining area. Casa Familia has a private garden, swimming pool and a thatched sala with beautiful sea views.
Cool off with a refreshing dip in the uniquely designed pool and gaze out at the crystal-clear Indian Ocean. Browse for mementos at the beach shop or book a dive trip at the Dive Centre, which has all the necessary equipment and plenty of convenient change rooms.
There is a dedicated massage sala, private beach bandas and Wi-Fi in the communal guest areas. Horse riders can saddle up at the stables for an idyllic beach outride.

Meals at Benguerra Island Lodge are fresh from the sea with delicacies such as tiger prawns, crab curry and grilled crayfish, but meat dishes such as beef and lamb are also on offer. The castaway ‘desert island’ picnics on the north of the island are highly recommended and the beach is the perfect spot to watch the sunset with a cocktail beneath whispering coconut palms.

Benguerra was equally amazing, literally paradise, and we really enjoyed our time at the beach and knowing the island. We had a great butler, Abel, who very thoughtful and for whom we would like to leave a note of recommendation…

Benguerra Lodge is very intimate, has a local feel and a lot of charm, so we are very happy we chose this one. The food was simply exceptional and the snorkelling was great and a unique experience.
Benguerra Lodge was fantastic! I think we might be going back there next year. That place is paradise, it really is. It comes highly recommended from myself and Nix. From the moment you arrive you immediately feel relaxed. What a place and the people that run it, Robbie and Lee are fantastic along with the rest of the gang, Andrew, Glanville and Ben. They were all very friendly!! This place knocks the socks off Mauritius.
We really loved our stay and it was everything we wished for.
