Under two hours from Cape Town, Birkenhead House offers both the drama of the world’s best land-based whale watching and the luxury of an exquisite seaside hotel. Its location in Hermanus on the cliffs that overlook the beaches of Walker Bay makes Birkenhead House the ideal base from which to explore this scenic area.There are plenty of activities to keep you busy during your stay. Hermanus offers access to golf courses, horseback excursions, fishing, bird watching and hikes along the coast or the fynbos-covered mountains. The pièce de résistance of the area is of course whale watching, which runs from July to November, peaking in September, and with a selection of award-winning beaches right on your doorstep, you can enjoy as much time on the beach as your heart desires.

 

Make a Positive Impact Through Travel

At Birkenhead House, they aim to support and uplift the local community. One of the projects is The Masibulele Crèche. They rely on the local council for support, but so much more is needed. The vision is to uplift Masibulele crèche to where they can offer growth through education. Through the generous support of guests, they have been successful in completing numerous maintenance, renovation, and construction of crucial infrastructure for the crèche. Birkenhead House also runs a feeding scheme through the creche and established a productive vegetable garden which is used as an educational tool, as well as providing fresh ingredients for the school meals. The chef delivers additional food and plans the children's menu with the school team monthly.

Standard Room

There is a splendid selection of suites at Birkenhead House. All 11 rooms – including the Honeymoon Suite – are spacious and offer spectacular sea views. Most rooms have their own balcony and one room even has its own private pool and patio area. The rooms are luxuriously furnished and provide all the comforts you would need during your stay. The standard rooms don’t have sea views but are spacious and opulent.

Birkenhead House is surrounded by rolling lawns that are ideal for picnics and lazy afternoons. You can enjoy sundowner drinks from the terrace overlooking a number of beautiful beaches or laze in the clear swimming pool while savouring the unspoiled views.There are two treatment rooms and a comprehensive spa menu featuring massage, aromatherapy and reflexology treatments to choose from.For those keen to have a more vigorous workout, the hotel also offers a fully equipped gym.
