Chicari Camp

Since its globally renowned restoration, Gorongosa National Park has been widely considered one of the most biodiverse regions on the planet. With its varied ecosystems and untouched biomes, every corner of the reserve supports growing wildlife populations across a million acres of wilderness. Here, you'll be treated to sightings of large herds of antelope grazing along the grasslands, as well as wetlands teeming with a kaleidoscope of birds. Soghtings of wild dog, lion and elephant are also common; as well as night species such as civet and genet. The camp’s pangolin rehabilitation and conservation efforts mean you can witness these elusive creatures as they’re guided to forage safely as part of their rehabilitation back into the wild. 

The camp is nestled along the edge of a forest and positioned in front of a seasonally inundated pan, which attracts a variety of wildlife that frequently gather to drink and splash in the waters. Whether on the main deck or your private verandah, the wilderness is at your doorstep. As a tented safari, Chicari Camp blends minimalist lodgings with secluded safaris to highlight the natural environment.

Chicari is a seasonal camp open from April to November, offering guests prime wildlife-viewing opportunities. Daily game drives bring you closer to those bucket-list-worthy sightings, including wild dogs and lions, while walking safaris offer a chance to explore the finer details of the reserve—such as pangolins thriving in their natural environment.
