Overview of Chindeni Bushcamp

Zambia, South Luangwa National Park

Situated deep within the game-rich South Luangwa, Chindeni is a secluded bush camp offering an authentic safari experience on the meandering Luangwa River. The camp offers a tranquil atmosphere with spacious thatch-roofed buildings, shaded by a grove of ancient ebony trees. Built high on stilts, the wooden viewing deck offers impressive views of the lagoon where hippo, puku and other wildlife – like large herds of elephant – can be regularly seen.

Embark on early morning and sunset guided bush walks, or evening game drives to spot elephant, lion, leopard and buffalo, as well as rare wildlife such as wild dogs and Thornicroft’s giraffe. Otherwise settle into a deckchair and watch the wildlife that comes to the lagoon for a drink.

You will see few other vehicles at this small and intimate camp. The focus is on flexibility and safari goers have the option of walking to sister camps, a fascinating activity that takes at least half a day and that allows you to see the smaller elements of the park as well as track big game on foot.

Chindeni is deeply involved in the broader South Luangwa community and provides assistance to local schools and feeding schemes, helps plant trees and sink boreholes for fresh, safe water, as well as being actively committed to the area’s successful conservation projects.

Chindeni Bushcamp is a small camp with just four tented suites. Each tent is raised on a wooden platform and opens onto a private balcony overhanging the still waters of the lagoon.

These comfortable tents have polished wooden floors and are furnished with two queen-sized beds, an open wardrobe and sitting area. At the back of each tent is an open-plan bathroom with a shower, hot and cold running water, a flush loo and double vanities.

Do note that, being a remote bush camp, Chindeni does not have electricity. However, the camp does have solar lighting, paraffin lamps, and enough generated power to recharge your camera batteries at the communal charging station in the mess tent.

This is a lovely little bush camp that's located deep within the South Luangwa bush. The setting is absolutely beautiful, overlooking a lagoon where you can watch wildlife come to drink water. The luxury tented rooms are extremely spacious and offers a good mix between luxury and authentic safari style accommodation. This is a superb bush camp option for your authentic walking safari experience.

The week in South Luwanga was likley the highlight, mostly the Bushcamps, Chindeni was the best. The game is hard to find although we knew it was there. It is so remote the animals are shy and dont see people much so hard to see.

The bush camps were all amazing especially Chindeni. We had great game drives and saw all there was to see.
