Situated deep within the game-rich South Luangwa, Chindeni is a secluded bush camp offering an authentic safari experience on the meandering Luangwa River. The camp offers a tranquil atmosphere with spacious thatch-roofed buildings, shaded by a grove of ancient ebony trees. Built high on stilts, the wooden viewing deck offers impressive views of the lagoon where hippo, puku and other wildlife - like large herds of elephant - can be regularly seen.
Embark on early morning and sunset guided bush walks, or evening game drives to spot elephant, lion, leopard and buffalo, as well as rare wildlife such as wild dogs and Thornicroft's giraffe. Otherwise settle into a deckchair and watch the wildlife that comes to the lagoon for a drink.
You will see few other vehicles at this small and intimate camp. The focus is on flexibility and safari goers have the option of walking to sister camps, a fascinating activity that takes at least half a day and that allows you to see the smaller elements of the park as well as track big game on foot.
Chindeni is deeply involved in the broader South Luangwa community and provides assistance to local schools and feeding schemes, helps plant trees and sink boreholes for fresh, safe water, as well as being actively committed to the area's successful conservation projects.
