Chobe Bakwena Lodge looks out over the Chobe River in northern Botswana. This intimate, family-run eco-lodge was lovingly built by hand, and offers comfort and warm hospitality in an area with one of the highest concentrations of game in Africa.

The lodge has lovely river frontage, and its unique position bordering Chobe National Park allows you to access it on game drives, but also to have a taste of life outside the park. The neighbouring local village is where you can meet the Batswana people, and experience the ‘real Africa' on visits to the community school and village.

Ideal for the responsible traveller, the lodge has heart-warming features like eco-friendly pest control (chickens that devour bugs!) and an eco-swimming pool filtered by plants. Traditionally thatched cottages have been built according to environmentally-friendly building principles, and offer cosy interiors that celebrate the local culture with contemporary flair, as well as lovely river views.

Bakwena is close enough to Victoria Falls to enjoy a day-trip to Africa's mightiest waterfall. Activities at the lodge include game viewing, boating, 4×4 drives, birding, cycling trips and village walks.

The Family Suite consists of two rooms; one with a king-sized bed and the other with twin beds. The suite has indoor and outdoor showers and a veranda with river views.

The extra-spacious and well-appointed Honeymoon Suite features a king-sized bed, two daybeds, a lounge area, a free-standing bathtub, indoor shower and a deck with river views.

General Facilities

The shared guest area has been built to take in the tranquil woodland setting and Chobe River views. The indoor bar, lounge and dining room lead onto an open-air deck and the eco swimming pool. Below you will find an enchanting circular clearing with a fire pit and space for alfresco dining – the perfect spot for evenings of stargazing and listening to the quiet sounds of the river. A laundry service is offered and transfers are also available for guests.

The dining area has lovely river views, and meals can also be taken outside on the deck or around the fire pit.  All food is sourced locally with an emphasis on fresh produce. Breakfast, lunch and dinner consist of simple yet wholesome and delicious cuisine with a touch of African fusion.
