Our stop to andBeyond Under Canvas was once in a lifetime. It was exactly what we wanted – staying in the Serengeti under tents is something I will recommend to everyone. It was exhilarating to listen to the bush at night-and we were greeted with sounds of lions, hyenas, and wildebeest. The staff is one in a million. From Adam our butler to Solomon our ranger, we were in such good company and it really added to our experience. The friendship between the staff and their guests is just wonderful. Our safari days were thrilling and we got to see so many beautiful sights of the Serengeti and the Great Migration. We couldn’t imagine that our trip could get any better.
The views from the Chobe River by boat were great. Hippos out of the water feeding, the herds of Cape Buffalo and elephant migrating to the river made it all worthwhile. The second morning in camp was a real memorable moment – at 4 am the local lion pride came into camp bellowing, sniffing and setting off all of the impala and birds with alarm calls. Two thumbs up!
The highlight was Chobe. Chobe is a magical place that fully introduced us to nature in Africa. We saw the big 5, we saw the magnificent 7, we saw the ugly 5… we saw things that took our breath away. The moment that you first see a black maned lion look at you is truly stunning. And then we arrived in Chobe. That was seriously incredible. The only way to do Chobe is in the tents. We heard so much… Elephants trumpeting and doing that little growl sound they make, Lions marking their territory, and looking at the footprints each morning was awesome. They made awesome food for being in tents, it was just overall mind-blowing.
Our stay at Chobe under canvas was spectacular. The large herds of animals we saw: elephant, giraffe, impala, zebra etc all against the back drop of the river and sunsets was breathtaking and memorable. Our guide, Stanza, was a lot of fun and passionate about the National Park and made him an excellent guide. The highlight was a leopard. Stanza spotted the Leopard in a tree where we watched it for some time then it came down and were able to see quite close and watch it walk into the bushes. We were also chased by a male lion late one afternoon – quite an adrenalin rush. The accommodation, whilst basic, was comfortable, clean and sufficient for 3 nights and the food could not be faulted. We would thoroughly recommend it. We also enjoyed the river cruised especially seeing so many hippo out of water, elephants, crocodiles and birds.
Off to the tents at Chobe. Magnificant concept which gave us a true picture of being in the wild, a challenge at our stage in life which makes us now appreciate the comforts of home. The amount of game viewing was phenominal.
