Rooms

Eco-Bungalow

Chumbe Island Coral Park’s seven double- or twin-bed, en suite eco-bungalows are located between the beach and the forest. Built with local materials such as mangrove poles and coconut-leaf thatch, these private bungalows overlook the sea, and have hot showers and large living areas decorated with African art and colourful fabrics.

To preserve Chumbe Island's exceptional environment, the accommodation features state-of-the-art eco-architecture. These eco-bungalows make use of natural resources to supply you with necessities: rainwater is collected from the roof during the rainy season and stored for use; compost toilets have been installed; the water from the showers is recycled through plant beds; and lights are powered by photovoltaic panels on the roof.

Facilities

Filtered water is pumped through solar-powered heating systems for showers and hand-basins.

Additional solar panels on the roof of the bungalows provide electricity for normal usage.

Dining

Meals at the Chumbe Island Coral Park are enjoyed under the impressive roof of the visitor's centre which offers stunning views of the sea between Zanzibar and the mainland.

Dishes are a mixture of local Zanzibarian flavours with Arabic and Indian influences with both vegetarian and non-vegetarian options.

Chumbe Island Coral Park

Maurizio Zola

Chumbe Island ecolodges are actually a great experience and the environment (coral reef, beaches with dramatic changes in low and high tide, mangrove forest) is very well preserved ; and getting to know that part of our money spent there is used to allow local students and teachers to learn what conservation of coral reef really means is part of this experience. Only one remark about food: quality was not so bad, quantity has to be improved.

"I cannot stop talking about Chumbe Island. What an experience! We saw so many things in the reef walk and the snorkelling was quite good. We loved the eco bungalows and again, the food was great."
