Overview

Chundukwa River Lodge is situated on the banks of the Zambezi River, close to the busy town of Livingstone in Zambia. This tranquil river lodge has excellent proximity to the mighty Victoria Falls but is far enough away from the hustle and bustle to provide you with a peaceful retreat. Nestled in lush riverine vegetation, five totally secluded thatched suites boast uninterrupted views across the river. Built on wooden stilts and named after gorgeous local birds, they are romantic and luxurious, a perfect retreat for honeymooners and couples.

The lounge and dining area are worth a special mention for their inviting deck and stunning view. There is a rock-clad plunge pool from which to sip sundowners and watch the day come to a beautiful end. The stables have over 20 experienced and well-trained horses available for outrides among lagoons and Chundukwa’s stunning scenery: exploring on horseback is a completely different experience to being on foot or in a vehicle.

In addition, Chundukwa River Lodge is owner-run and service-orientated, specialising in one-on-one interactions on classic sunset cruises, cultural village tours, birding trips, horse trails as well as trips to Victoria Falls. Chundu Cottage is available for small groups or families travelling together.

River Chalet

Each of the five suites is built on stilts, among the trees with private views of the river. The thatch and reed blend in with the surroundings on the outside, while offering all the modern comforts on the inside. Four-poster beds with romantic netting have electric blankets for the cool mid-year winter. Named after birds, the Bee-Eater, Honeyguide, Francolin, Jacana and Kingfisher suites have large windows with bamboo blinds, reinforcing the natural charm of the lodge. All have private en suite bathrooms.

Other Room Types

There is also Chundu Cottage, where friends and family can unwind in one double en suite room as well as an upstairs loft with space for two guests and a young child. There is a private swimming pool and sundeck as well as a large veranda. The cottage has its own staff of a chef, waiter and housekeeper to ensure your privacy.

Facilities

In between activities such as horseback rides, birding or an excursion to Victoria Falls, a dip in the swimming pool will provide much-welcomed refreshment on sunny afternoons. Wi-Fi is available and the lodge also offers a laundry service.

Dining

The kitchen at Chundukwa River Lodge goes out of its way to produce delicious food that has its roots in home cooking. All products are from the area, garden or neighbouring farms to ensure freshness and quality. Meals are served either at the restaurant or in the bush and private meals are a special treat. Expect wake-up tea or coffee served in your room each day followed by breakfast on the scenic deck overlooking the Zambezi.

"Our bush country lodging were all very nice. I would rate Jatinga as the best, Simbambili next, then Kafunta, and finally Chundukwa, based on accommodations and meals."

"It is simple, clean and has a nice river view. we really appreciated the limited amount of guests (only 5 chalets). This made a very special atmosphere."

Chundukwa Lodge: Many thanks to, Peter & Orla, for being so understanding, and for refunding us the one lost night. Although only one night, it seemed to go on forever as we met up with great fellow guest from, Spain & the UK. Victoria Fall’s was awe some and powerful. Zambia’s people are wonderful and we experienced nothing but great things from them all from entering the country to leaving it. Chundukwa is a very comfortable and peaceful place. Highly recommended.
