The camp's Classic Tents are set within a forest and are slightly smaller than Superior Tents and further away from the central amenities, making them a favourite with safari goers looking for privacy and tranquility.
Kwicha Tembo's very spacious Superior Tents that have been laid out to maximise the spectacular views from each: some boast sweeping vistas of the Masai Mara, others of the Mara through a canopy of lush forest, a few are situated in the forest itself and are ideal for birders, while a couple have epic views of the escarpment made famous in Out of Africa.
There are three pairs of ‘family' tents that share a connecting passageway for maximum privacy and security, and two of these also have private outdoor areas.
Every tent has an exclusive-use verandah with a built-in daybed for afternoon siestas and en suite bathrooms with double vanities, large showers and ‘loos with views'.
Kichwa Tembo offers excellent facilities for you to enjoy during your stay. Enjoy refreshing post-game drive drinks in the cosy bar area before a delicious dinner in either the indoor or outdoor dining area.
On those hot summer days the swimming pool is perfect for laid-back game viewing while cooling off.

Kichwa Tembo was just unreal. We couldn’t recommend it any higher and would definitely say it was the perfect honeymoon destination.
Our flight to Kichwa Tembo Tented Camp was interesting. We were picked up by Lemiso and taken to Kichwa Tembo. On our arrival there was a group of workers from the camp serenading us with a welcoming song in Swahili as we drove up. Once again, we had a lovely cottage. Sitting on the deck where we ate our meals, we could see elephants and giraffes in the distance and warthogs eating on the lawn near the deck. The warthogs kept us entertained with their antics. I think they are my favourite animal.
The cook and our waiter checked in with us at the first meal. We were impressed how the cook had all my food intolerances and allergies memorized and had assured me that what I was served, I could safely eat. This continued throughout the trip in all of the camps. We were very busy going out on safari to various areas of Masai Mara and Lemiso tried to make sure we saw as many animals as possible. Sadly, the day we were watching three Cheetahs on a hunt we had another couple in the vehicle who weren't interested in watching the hunt to its conclusions. I sympathize with the guides who must deal with tourists who have their own expectations and agendas on these trips rather than to see the animals in their natural habitat leading their normal lives. One evening as we were heading back to the camp, we saw some ostriches, but it was too late to spend time watching them. When I asked Lemiso if we could try to find the ostriches the next morning, he found them for me. I really appreciated his effort. I learned that the male ostriches in Masai Mara had pink legs.
Lemiso was an amazing guide. When we met him, he said to call him Ken. I asked him what his birth name was, and he said Lemiso which means he was born at night. I asked him which name he preferred, and he said he preferred the name his mother gave him. He was incredibly knowledgeable about the animals that live in Masai Mara and explained so much about the animals' behaviours. In one instance we had to back up slowly when a huge male elephant took offence to us being there. Lemiso was able to read the elephant's behaviour and know what to do to keep us safe. The same afternoon a male lion decided that he was “king of the road” and lay down in the middle of the road keeping several safari cruisers waiting for him to move off the road. I liked the signs that said that the animals had the right of way.
Because I'm having problems with my knees and legs climbing in and out of the Landcruiser was extremely difficult. Lemiso found a set of steps designed for getting in and out of the Landcruiser which was very helpful. One night we were entertained by a Masai Village group from nearby with music and dancing. When we left Kichwa Tembo, once again some of the workers sang a song of farewell as we drove away.
The trip was amazing and special and beyond my wildest dreams. We really fell in love with Kenya and the amazing people. Please keep sending folks to &Beyond. Everything there was top-notch and beyond expectations.
Kichwa Tembo was great. We were out 9 hours on the first full day looking for the wildebeest crossing. We saw where the zebras and wildebeest gathered at the river’s edge waiting to cross but would get spooked and run back up. But finally, at the end of the day, we got to see them crossing and witness 3 wildebeest getting dragged under by the crocodiles. It was spectacular. We were very happy that we got to see the crossing.
Kichwa Tembo was undeniably our favorite. Their inclusion of the Maasai tribe was incredible and our game driver, Puya, was the best overall of any camp.
