Located in the far north of Tanzania's Pemba Island, Manta Resort is the archetype of an idyllic, remote and untouched tropical getaway. Set on a pristine white beach just metres away from a vibrant coral reef, this is the kind of place where you can indulge in barefoot, Crusoe-chic romance.
Here you can dive and snorkel perfect reefs in total seclusion, explore this magical island with its rich history of the spice trade and the rise and fall of the Arab empire, and wander lush tropical forests in search of monkeys and the endemic flying fox. If you choose a more sedate pace you can enjoy the sparkling pool overlooking the limpid ocean or indulge in a decadent spa treatment while the breeze gently ruffles the palm trees over the beach. But its highlight but surely be the unique ‘underwater room', a 3-storey glass-fronted suite where your bedroom is four metres below water. At night, spotlights illuminate the reef and passing fish, making for an ever-changing but peaceful scene to drift off to.

Unwind and relax, in your own private luxury
Seafront Villa
The Seafront Villas boast a spacious and private open-plan design, with a centered king size bed and large en-suite bathroom. The villas feature a perfect blend of traditional Pemban decor with contemporary comfort. In addition, a state of the art EveningBreeze cooling system provides comfort without noise or drafts. After selecting your preferred sleeping climate, cool clean air will gently circulate over the surface of your bed—carrying with it the promise of a good night's sleep.
Standard Garden Room
The Standard Garden Rooms have a private open-plan design, with a four-posted king size bed, en-suite bathroom and private garden with outdoor shower. Created from local materials and traditional Pemban décor with contemporary comfort. In addition, a small balcony allows our guests a shady spot to relax in the garden.
Underwater Room
The landing deck, which is at sea level, has a lounge area and bathroom facility. From there, steps lead up to the roof which also has a lounging area perfect for sun worshipping by day and stargazing by night. Sleep under the stars to the soft murmuring of the sea. Downstairs – the magical feeling of lying on a soft double bed surrounded by panes of glass affording almost 360 degrees viewing – watching the shoals of reef fish visiting your windows. Some have taken up residence around the room, which affords them some protection from predation.
Oceanview Double Villa
The latest edition to the resort, the spacious Oceanview Villas are ideal for families and small groups. Each villa boasts stunning, elevated views of the Pemba Channel and the Marine Protected Area. The villas feature two bedrooms connected by a private bar and dining area, which open onto a spacious deck and pool. A private walkway leads directly to the beach, ending at a cozy beach banda with a small lounge, shower, and bar fridge.
General Facilities
The Manta Resort is designed in keeping with a ‘castaway' theme, where wood, stone and makuti thatch blend seamlessly with the surrounding environment. Whitewashed walls and dark locally-made furnishings are offset with bright splashes of colour, reminiscent of the tropical gardens and coral reef. The large main building overlooks the azure ocean and is a cool and breezy retreat that houses the lounge, dining and bar area. Steps lead down to the expansive pool area that in turn leads onto the beach, where the attentive staff of the Beach Bar takes care of your every need as you lounge in a hammock listening to the waves lapping the shore.

The menu is both imaginative and fresh. Featuring tropical fruits from the island, tasty vegetables from the resort's own gardens and seafood straight from the ocean – the dhows arriving on the beach with the day's catch will dictate the following meal. Beef and chicken dishes feature the delightful fusion of flavours and spices that the island is famous for.
