You can also sip on a glass of wine as you enjoy a classic or art nouveau movie in the hotel's private cinema, known as The Screening Room.

Centrally situated in Franschhoek, Le Quartier Français is within walking distance of the many fine boutiques and art galleries that dot this small town, and there is more than enough to keep you entertained further afield, too: wine tasting, hiking trails, excellent golf courses, children’s activities, art tours, garden tours and historical experiences are all available.

Dining

Le Quartier boasts two of the best restaurants in South Africa’s Western Cape region. Protégé offers an informal and comfortable approach to the typical high-end fare. Under the guidance of celebrity chef Scot Kirton, stylish small plates menus and trendy cuisine with Asian, French and Italian influences are created by a series of talented young chefs. Dine al fresco or see the masters at work in the central show kitchen.

Épice, which took the title of Best New Restaurant in Africa in the inaugural World Culinary Awards, is a more formal affair. Menu items consist of refined home-style dishes that revolve around spices, with flavours inspired by the team's travels to India, Spain, Japan, Mexico and the USA.

"Loved it."

Staying in Franschoek was probably my favourite part of the trip. I just couldn’t fault this place – it was stunning. It was an oasis of calm when sat by the pool but then equally just a short walk to the restaurants etc. I had my best ever check -in experience at this place; they came out, greeted us, walked us to our room, showed us round and left us. It took me a minute to realise I hadn’t signed any papers, no passports or credits cards had been asked for – it was just so….’slick’. Probably the best breakfast of our trip was here – and that’s saying something! You got the felling that nothing was too much trouble for the staff at this place. Amazing huge room overlooking the pool as well – I don’t know why anyone would bother to pay extra and stay in the exclusive ‘Four Quarters’ section because the main section was just as private and arguably more attractive.

We loved the town of Franschhoek and Le Quartier Francais. We really enjoyed the fireplace in our room and the hot water bottles at our feet in bed. The only day it rained on our entire trip was the day we did our wine tasting tours. We went through the town of Stellenbosch on the tour and from what we saw we were glad we stayed in Franschhoek. Had lunch at the Bread and Wine. The Tasting Room was an experience!!!

The only thing I would have done differently is add on a few more days in Franschhoek because we absolutely loved it. We actually looked at house prices we loved it so much!Le Quartier was amazing and I would recommend anyone to go there. There was a small honeymoon gift in our room on our arrival which we thought was a lovely touch.

On to the Winelands. Le Quartier Francaise was delightful - I took lots of pictures of the beautifully decorated room. We opted not to dine at The Tasting Room but enjoyed Ici very much. We also ate at Haute Cabriere where we enjoyed a very tasty d inner. Ray is a very fussy eater and it proved to be a bit of a challenge this entire trip for reasons even I myself can't comprehend. Visiting the wineries was very pleasant and the tour at Boschendal was great - such a beautiful place with great history. We stopped in Stellenbosch for lunch on our way to Franschhoek but I preferred the intimacy of the latter town.
