Masoala Forest Lodge
Masoala Forest Lodge is best described as a ‘castaway retreat'. Set in Madagascar's Masoala National Park, this lodge is only accessible by boat or foot (over several days through dense rainforest), making it the perfect escape from the modern world.
Promising barefoot luxury on a tropical island paradise, Masoala Forest Lodge offers comfortable accommodation that blends harmoniously into the natural environment. Each room is a stone's throw away from the pristine, private beach, with the lush, wildlife-rich rainforest as your backdrop. Two communal areas provide the perfect vantage point from which to enjoy the breath-taking scenery and to simply let yourself relax.
There's a ton to do and see during your stay at Masoala, from water-based activities and exploring the rainforests to napping in a hammock as the ocean lulls you to sleep. Snorkelling, kayaking, forest walks, night walks and whale watching are just a few of the adventures you can enjoy – all designed to connect you to nature and her many splendours.

The seven rooms are traditional African safari tents, but raised on stilted decks within the forest canopy and overlooking the beach. The cool breeze off the ocean or through the rainforest acts as natural air conditioning with the tents and their gauze windows oriented for maximum through drafts. Lying in bed and listening to the gentle wash of the ocean on the golden beach below, or the rustling of rainforest leaves cannot help but let you leave the frenetic energy of the city behind.
Everything at Masoala Forest Lodge is designed to provide the ultimate barefoot luxury experience in a haven of tranquility. When not enjoying the lush rainforests and pristine beaches of the private reserve, enjoy the two stilted, thatched and open-plan communal areas.
The first, The Beach House, is where lunch and dinner are served, with a nook of comfortable chairs and a well-stocked natural history library that's perfect for relaxing after meals. The Sea Deck provides exceptional views over the bay and is where breakfast and afternoon tea are served. This is the perfect space to take in the beautiful scenery with a drink.
And for those who enjoy a bit of R&R while on vacation, the massage tent offers blissful massage therapy treatments to melt all your stress away.

Mealtimes at the lodge are an unforgettable experience. Choose from diverse menus that perfectly combine traditional Malagasy and European-style dishes. Expect fresh fish, shellfish, beef, rice, fruit, and vegetable as staples of the cuisine, while an onsite salad and herb garden provides crisp, newly harvested greens.
Breakfast and afternoon tea are served on the Sea Deck, while lunch and dinner are enjoyed at the Beach House. Snacks and sundowners are savoured on beach, with the mesmerising African sunset as your view.

Masoala Forest Lodge really is a hidden gem – tucked away in the pristine rainforest with waves lapping the shores you just can’t get a better diversity of experiences.
The accommodation is rustic but has everything you could need, raised on stilts just meters from the ocean. The range of activities is really impressive and allows every guest to choose how active they would like to be, from exploring the rainforests looking for creatures small and smaller to exploring what is hidden below the surface of the incredible ocean. The staff are friendly and welcoming and meals are simple yet delicious with even the smallest food preference catered for. Bursting with diversity I would highly recommend a 7 or 10-night stay, 4 nights was really a bit short.
