The Merlot Rooms are larger than the Shiraz Rooms and also boast king-sized beds with valley views. Located in the Garden and Manor House Wings of the hotel, you can enjoy the tranquil wine estate homestead ambiance.
The Cabernet Rooms include a private terrace overlooking the valley. These spacious rooms are located in the Vineyard Wing of the hotel.
The Shiraz Rooms have king-sized beds with an en suite bathroom. Found in the Garden Wing and boast courtyard and valley views from a small private balcony.
A well-equipped gym is available to work off all that fine food, wine and cheese if you overindulge at Mont Rochelle. Horseback and mountain-bike excursions are also offered off-site, or you can just lounge around the heated swimming pool during the hot summer months (from about October to March) and soak up the glorious views of the surrounding mountains and vineyards.
Various indulgent massages and beauty treatments are available from the Spa at Mont Rochelle – try a Grape Skin Facial or the Spice Journey Massage, which makes use of a variety of traditional Cape Malay spices.

Mont Rochelle’s fine-dining restaurant, Miko, is the perfect place to round off a day in the stunning Cape Winelands. This elegant restaurant offers world-class cuisine, great wines produced on the farm itself, and mesmerising vineyard views to accompany your meal. For a more relaxed, Mediterranean approach to dining, The Country Kitchen offers outdoor dining areas overlooking vineyards – a great venue to enjoy a glass of the cellar’s own fine wine.
The Country Kitchen will also pack you a delicious picnic basket that you can take with you to enjoy at a pretty spot on the estate – under the trees, next to the dam or in the fragrant rose garden. End your day with pre-dinner drinks and canapés at The Bar. The Bar also serves light meals until early evening as well as hot chocolate and biscuits in front of the roaring fire in winter (about May to August).
With stunning vistas over Franschhoek every direction one turns, Sir Richard Branson's Winelands offering matches sophistication with elegant charm. A room arrangement for every occasion!

We went to Mt. Rochelle, but we did not know it was owned by Sir Richard Branson. We had a corner room and a beautiful view of the vineyards, and you even controlled the weather; not until we were there, did we experience our first rain day of the 20 days. The property was not fully booked and we truly felt like honored guests. Again, Ramona you were right, it was time to just relax and we did.
Mont Rochelle would be hard to beat. We felt we could have stayed one more day there and one less day in Cape Town. The lunch you arranged for us while there was excellent and was made a special anniversary experience.
Mont Rochelle is the Full Monty. The playful, quirky interiors don’t shy away from the sort of luxurious features you’d expect any property owned by Sir Richard Branson to have, such as spacious bedroom suites with beautiful views, a strong sense of privacy and a list of special inclusions designed to make your stay unforgettable. Family-friendly, the property is large, full of surprises (like garden chess and croquet) and guests are even encouraged to grab a picnic basket and meander into the gardens if they’d like to explore the property further. Worth every single cent, in my opinion.
I specifically went to experience Mont Rochelle for small families 🙂
PROS:
– Children under 5 are FOC, they put a camp cot for our baby and a bed on the floor for our toddler and each received a little soft meerkat toy
– Kids menus & baby sitters are available
– A very relaxed atmosphere for a luxury hotel, children are very welcome though there are no set kids activities or facilities. The grounds are large enough to run free and the heated pool is a winner; many guests cancelled some of their tours just to stay poolside for the day, sipping G&Ts.
CONS:
– Although they have family activities, there is no structured program and we weren't offered any activities for our kids but I imagine they would offer their options of cooking with the chef, arts & crafts or juice tasting for kiddies to longer-staying guests, or you’d have to specifically ask or prep your guests to ask.
– Very expensive restaurant (double local restaurant prices and the restaurants at Spier & Boschendal)
– The website speaks about nature trails and bike trails which we were looking forward to, but actually the reserve is across town up the pass so no walks as such except through the vineyards which are right behind the hotel, so we preferred the other two from a nature/active point of view
So in my opinion MR is best for:
A good option for people wanting a family-friendly atmosphere but not necessarily a place targeted at little kids. Possibly best for older kids/tweens who don't want toddler activities but can enjoy having a tennis court, boulles, a pool, croquet, board games whilst not out & about touring the winelands.
