Sanctuary Sussi & Chuma

We arrived in an open-air jeep from the border (we wish we had known so Kelli could have put her hair up and we would have had a small US$ bill ready to tip the driver.) The staff greeted us very warmly and gave us lots of info. The round “tree house” room was very unique and fun. We loved the food here, (very gourmet-like, much better portion size compared to Notten’s) and the outdoor Tiki bar! The very best part was the evening boat tours to look for animals. Thank goodness our guide Junior took us to Victoria Falls, shopping and touring a village early before the day got too hot! We had a lot of fun taking a boat up and down the Zambezi and through some rapids! Also, there were very FEW other boats around us. We’ll need to come back and see it when the Zambezi is high.

I loved watching the stars from the firepit on the intimate deck, listening for hippo. Sussi & Chuma has a cosy ambience with a traditional safari lodge feel, most of the local staff have been there for decades and have wonderful stories to share. A highlight was a visit to the local Nakatindi village female entrepreneurship projects of Chipego Bike Shop & Sishemo Beads, so inspiring!

Set on the banks of the mighty Zambezi, this lodge offers a treetop feel amongst the trees with a partial view overlooking the river. The lodge itself offers well appointed, luxury rooms, gorgeous views from the main lodge area and absolutely delicious food with the option to try local delicacies. The sunset cruise is a must do where elephants, crocodiles, hippo's and many bird species can be witnessed. Enjoy a game drive as well as a bush walk where you can witness numerous game species. Having no predators means an abundance of plains game species.

What an incredible way to experience the Zambian side of the Victoria Falls – a unique property with excellent staff and memorable activities. The beautiful chalets have views of the mighty Zambezi river and a calming atmosphere – perfect for couples and honeymooners.

The lodge and service from the staff were a real nice experience. They can be awarded with an exceptional personal approach. The personal touch and efforts made by the staff make it the right choice.

Sussi & Chuma is a very nice lodge in a picturesque setting on the Zambesi river. There are 12 ‘huts’ built on stilts. Each of the huts is quite modern on the inside, with a beautiful canopy bed with mosquito netting, a separate toilet area, a shower, a tub, and a deck overlooking the river. Very comfortable. There is a bar and sitting area behind the reception area, and below is the main dining area. Closer to the river there is a deck where they serve drinks and snacks around a nice fire at sunset. There are several activities offered during there day – game drives, boat cruises, canoeing, nature walks, guided tour of the Victoria falls from the Zambian side, fishing, etc. You are generally allowed two activities each day. Many additional activities are available in Livingstone for an additional charge. The staff tries very hard to give you a top-notch experience. We spent two lovely nights here, and enjoyed our visit to the Victoria Falls, as well as the game drives. The staff went out of their way to meet all of our wishes

We had a wonderful time we had at Victoria Falls. Sussi and Chuma was great. The staff were so friendly and they kept us busy the whole day. We had an amazing trip and all worked out great.

Nice tree house. Very nice rose petals, and the sparkling wine with candles were wonderful! Victoria Falls was VERY impressive… breathtaking!

With regards to the accomodations, all your recommendations were perfect! Our stay at Sussi & Chuma was like staying with family and Rachael, Simon and Junior made sure we were ready for all our activities on time, even so much as to arrange for breakfast at our treehouse so that we would not have to feel rushed by getting up early for the elephant safari. We fell in love with them and the rest of the staff at Sussi & Chuma.

Sussi & Chuma simply outstanding and all the people (staff, managers) we met, well, we will just never forget them: so kind, always available, precise and attentive but unobtrusive.

It was the right call to have 3 nights at the Sussi & Chuma Lodge, as by the time we arrived we had been travelling for about 20 hrs since leaving home in the UK. So by the time we had arrived we were very happy to have the remainder of this day just relaxing and enjoying the surroundings etc. For the following two days here we were then refreshed and happy to do all the activities that were offered. Having just two more nights was perfect as we did all that was on offer, and if we stayed any longer we would have either been repeating safari trips or sitting around in the sunshine. The staff here were extremely friendly, helpful and very attentive and we enjoyed the food, lodge and the location very much and you really could not ask for anymore. For the first two nights there was only one other couple staying which meant there were so many staff for so few people, and maybe this had an influence on the service we received. We also had our own guide for all the excursions on a one to one basis which was lovely and we struck up a good relationship with him, also it was nice to have him take us to border when we left the lodge to head to Chobe.

It was an absolutely charming place and I wished we could have stayed there longer. I can’t imagine to be in a better place for our anniversary. The staff were the nicest people we ever met. Also the location is extraordinary, with the fantastic view of the Zambezi. We also loved the food – very good and creative. The staff made their best to make our anniversary evening memorable – I can’t imagine a better place to be for that date.

Sussi & Chuma in Zambia, incredible!

We really enjoyed the Sussi & Chuma lodge. The accomodations, food and service were all top-notch. I would highly recommend this place to anyone. Although the game viewing wasn’t the main focus, we saw a lot of great animals, including the white rhino, which was quite a treat.

The Sussi & Chuma tree house was great. The tree houses were huge and very spacious. There was no electric fence separating the river from the property. We had a wild elephant visit us for one day. Lots of hippos on the river.

Sussi & Chuma was outstanding. Top class. The wine was excellent. There were menu options for each meal, and they were all great. The meat and vegetarian dishes were both beautiful and delicious. The desserts were heavenly. I tried crocodile for the first time, and it was quite good. The lodge was clean. The service was top-notch, with every staff member introducing themselves to us. The air conditioner in the room was a nice touch. The guides were extremely knowledgeable and friendly. The manager, Juliet, was knowledgeable, welcoming, warm, and friendly. We were surprised with rose petals spelled out into “LOVE” on the floor of our room with a suprisingly nice bottle of champagne for our honeymoon. We got breakfast cooked for us on the island for our sunrise cruise, which was also a surprise. We were served tray-pass hors d’oeuvres every night after our evening activity and prior to dinner. Five stars!
