Sindabezi Island Camp
Sindabezi is the little sister camp to the acclaimed Tongabezi Lodge. Accessible only by boat, this intimate lodge lies harmoniously upon an island just upriver from one of the World’s Natural Wonders, Victoria Falls.
With open-fronted chalets overlooking the surrounding Zambezi River floodplain and the Victoria Falls National Park beyond that, you’ll find yourself comfortably immersed in nature, with the space and exclusivity to truly escape the grind.
Entirely off-grid and eco-friendly, as well as community and sustainability-driven, a stay here will contribute to uplifting the area’s local community and aid in the protection of its vulnerable wildlife. The activities on offer reflect this ethos. Spend your days on leisurely sunset boat cruises, soaking in the surroundings while enjoying a picnic lunch, or popping through to a local village market. Of course, Mosi-oa-Tunya the “Smoke that Thunders”, Victoria Falls, is right nearby and not to be missed. Back at the lodge, you can enjoy the sights of the resident game wandering about – a perfect armchair safari add-on.
Make a Positive Impact Through TravelTongabezi Trust School was born in 1996 from a desire to provide underprivileged rural Zambian children, living within walking distance of the school, with a sound and holistic education in a bid to improve the quality of their lives. Their vision is to develop the child as a whole and help them gain greater knowledge and understanding of educational and social issues, so they can make informed choices and have the chance of bright, promising futures. Today, Tongabezi Trust School has over 280 current students and is made up of classrooms, as well as an art room, a music room and amphitheatre, sports grounds, a library, and a canteen. The children participate in a variety of extracurricular activities such as ICT, sports, music, drama, cultural dance, chess and art. Tujatane also supports over 60 children who have moved on to secondary schools all over Zambia and many Tujatane alumni are at universities and colleges all over the world. |

I cannot even tell you how much I loved it here! We basically had a private island to ourselves since there were no other guests! The manager, Timothy, really took care of us, he makes an amazing Old Fashioned, and it was nice talking to him by the fire. He did trick us about being able to see a hippo from our room, we were surprised and delighted by the foam hippo in the rose-filled bath that was drawn for us!
It’s cool that you can only get to the chalets by boat, we saw so many hippos! The sunset boat ride is a must-do! And so convenient, with yummy snacks! The falls were beautiful, we actually got double rainbows the day we went! Angel’s pool though, was a major highlight of our trip! It is not to be missed! Coolest thing I’ve done in a long time! We walked with rhinos, which was super cool and was the last of the big 5 we had left to see.
It was a nice treat to have a complimentary massage. Again, very nice of them to make a birthday cake for Matt! Our last night there, Horris the Hippo came to visit (I have a recording of him eating by our chalet and jumping into the water). I would like to come back here in the summer, it’s a lovely place but I think it would be more enjoyable in hotter weather. The visit to Tongabezi School was definitely a highlight, the kids were so cute and it’s really great to see how the company gives back to the local community.
The people and workers were wonderful and pleasant at each of the resorts. Every place was clean and quite comfortable. The food was exceptional and of the highest quality at all of our resorts. Arathusa and Sindabezi were luxurious, even though Sindabezi didn’t have electricity on the island there was however solar power. We loved listening to the sounds of nature at night, and we are not the camping type.
How wonderfully pleasant it is to be on your own island with a small group of other seasoned travelers. Watching the Zambezi river flow past the deck, colorful birds perching in the tree nearby is just the average morning and afternoon at Sindabezi. The managers work very hard to make all request happen and are often directly involved to the activities. I don’t know how they prepare the food to be so tasteful in such a small setting. These folks try very hard.
I like the kind of travelers the Sindabezi attracts, a traveler seeking a different experience with importance more towards quiet more personal activities. I think I like the Zambia view more than the Zimbabwe view of the falls, at least during the month of April.
Sindabezi is one of the most romantic places I’ve ever stayed! While quite remote and rustic, the views and nighttime sounds are incredible. Total wilderness!
Sindabezi was absolutely fantastic – so much so that I almost cried when I had to leave!
