Rooms

Standard Double Room

Located in the main building, The Sands offers 28 standard semi-circular en suite rooms that are simple yet elegant and carefully set into the natural environment. Lamu ceilings, netted four-poster beds and African-patterned furnishings make for a quaint, comfortable space to rest after a day of activity. The balcony is a key feature of the room, offering splendid views of the Indian Ocean and allowing guests to unwind with a cool breeze on their face.

Eco-conservation is one of the lodge’s top priorities. To keep its impact on the environment to a minimum, the main generator is switched off between 10h00 and 17h00. No reason to fret, the main building has a smaller generator in operation to ensure guests have access to electricity if necessary.

Facilities

The main building boasts magnificent views of the surrounding lush greenery. Thatched roof, hut-like architecture and a mix of African- and island-style décor form a haven for guests to swap stories over a drink at the main bar. A little way away lies the Galana pool bar, settled near the standard rooms area. Exuding a tranquil island vibe and sporting stunning views of the swaying ocean, it’s the ideal place to enjoy a sundowner, espresso or soft drink while lounging poolside.

Fill your downtime with a visit to the gym, learning more about Tanzania and it’s ecosystem with a trip to the lodge’s library, indulging in a pamper session at the onsite spa, or stocking up on a few curios and trinkets to take back home at the two boutiques.

Dining

Chef Evans and his expert team of highly trained cooks tantalise your taste buds with every meal. Serving the finest in traditional Kenyan cuisine, as well as offering a delectable selection of Italian and Oriental dishes, the main restaurant is a treat when staying at The Sands. With a live grilling station and pasta corner, the team ensures that each and every meal is as fresh as can be. Coupled with an extensive international beverage menu and a well-stocked wine cellar in a location just steps away from the beach, it’s a dining experience like no other.

Teatime is an essential part of your day at The Sands. A refreshing break during a jam-packed day of beach-themed activity, it allows guests to slow down and enjoy the island. Here, you’ll sip on tea and indulge in snacks under the lush greenery surrounding the main building’s veranda or right on the beach with a view of the ocean.
