"Great colonial-style hotel, again with lovely staff. Superb ‘communal’ areas all over the place where one could relax. The ‘Jungle Junction’ is a lovely area for breakfast and dinner. Great food. "

Victoria Falls Hotel: Again of the highest standard for friendliness, comfort, range of restaurants and colonial feel (rather amusing in that country.) The Falls have to be seen to be believed even if it was low water, and we did the Falls walk, and sunset cruise on the Upper Zambesi. We used the 16 seater smaller boat from Raikane which had an aura of luxury and intimacy with a brilliant Captain which made us the envy of the larger boats We were the only ones to see the elephants swim the river as all other boats had departed. ( and we were closer to the hippos.)

My trip to Zimbabwe you helped me arrange was flawless. My room has a beautiful view of the bridge and a view of the mists which rise skyward from the Falls. As I write this, I sit on the veranda watching the sunrise through the mist of the fal ls with a nice blanket draped over my shoulders. The hotel is so nice and last night while I was face timing with Sarah and Suss, they came In turn down my bed and placed a chocolate on my pillow as well as draw the mosquito netting around the bed. Quite lovely.

Victoria Falls Hotel was wonderful-I liked the hints of a by-gone era and the old world style. The food was good. Service was excellent. Hotel was clean and the grounds were beautiful. Our room had a great view. From the Terrace you can see the mist from the Falls

The Victoria Falls Hotel reminded me of the elegant British hotels I have stayed at in past years. The property was out of a travel book. The rooms had every modern convenience while maintaining the "turn-of-the-century" ambience. The Falls were brea th taking.Dinner at the Livingston Room had no problem meeting their reputation as one of the finest restaurants in the world. Though more costly than Cape Town, everything we ate was perfect. High Tea was wonderful over looking the Zambezi Gorge and bridge from the Stanley Terrace.

We had a fabulous time here. We loved the hotel and were very happy to be staying there with its glorious view and gardens. Our son even braved the swimming pool. The hotel reminded me very much of Raffles in Singapore. We were very pleased to be staying on the Zimbabwe side of the falls as the walk along the cliff top opposite the water fall was fantastic - we have some great photos and memories. I really misjudged how much cash to take with us but luckily we were able to withdraw dollars from the Barclays Bank in town and also pay for the extras with credit cards.

And finally, we so appreciate your recommendation of the Victoria Falls Hotel. We would not have chosen that for ourselves, but it was such a highlight, we loved it. Staying at the Hotel was an experience in and of itself. We loved the old style c olonial feel and the service was exceptional. The food was incredible, loved the African dancer show and the view of the Bridge & Falls was incredible. We also did a Zambezi river cruise which was wonderful, the best sunset viewing of the trip.

Victoria Falls Hotel was all that I hoped for. The renovations caused no problem at all, and our room was great. I don't know how much input you had on what room we got, but it was on the ground floor facing the bridge. I don't think the higher grade room would have been better.

We are currently at the Victoria Falls Hotel preparing to leave Africa tomorrow. The hotel is fabulous. Our room is huge, similar to a suite with a sitting room, bedroom, and bath. Wish we were staying here longer! The helicopter flight over the fall s was spectacular! Thank you for suggesting it.

The Victoria Falls Hotel was just magnificent. What a building! and they have kept it in good condition. The view of the bridge and the mist rising from the falls from the back patio is just spectacular. Food and beverages were quite expensive as com pared to South Africa. High tea on the back patio is a must, it is massive and is unlikely that you will manage to eat everything. In general apart from the cost the food was good, we only used the buffet style eating.

The Victoria Falls hotel was beautiful and well maintained. The Falls were of course spectacular, but there was so much water flow while we were there that the views were somewhat obscured by all the mist. I would consider returning another time to have the opportunity to run the river below the falls.

Victoria Falls was definitely one of the highlights of the trip! It just opened up, it was magnificient and that thundering sound! I wish I was there all over again! I loved it! We did do a lot of activities! I loved that the accommodation was walkin g distance to the falls and it had a fantastic view of the bridge where Zimbabwe and Zambia borders! The many activities we did include lion walking encounter, bungee jumping, elephant back safari, white water rafting on the Zambezi River and a helicopter flight over the falls! It was epic!

Victoria Falls Hotel: great colonial hotel in the most spectacular setting. Food was disappointing (lack of choice in the Terrace restaurant) and they need to improve security for their guests walking to the falls. They share a private dirt track wit h the adjoining hotel, which leads directly to the entrance of the falls, in 10 minutes, but it is so private that when you're being harassed, there's no-one to help you. We experienced quite an intimidating mini-mob of 4 guys trying to stop us from returning to our hotel, right before closing time of the hotel gate (that gate closes at 18h). For other guests I'd recommend they take the main road - which takes you longer - or to take a taxi.It was a shame this happened as it spoils the mood. We (informally) reported this incident to the local Tourist Police, so I hope they will patrol that area a bit more instead of all hanging around the tourist shops in the centre.

I have to say that our most memorable experiences came from Zim & Botswana. We loved the Vic falls hotel, a lovely british colonial hotel boasting lots of history, but the falls themselves was breathtakingly spectacular from all perspectives - the gr ound, white water rafting within the gorge and from above, this will be unforgettable.

The Victoria Falls Hotel was very nice. As you noted, it's an old hotel, but it is nicely kept, freshly painted, and the restaurants and service were great. As you respond to the hotel, you might note that the shower curtain needs to be longer an d wider, a little thing, but one that would make the stay more pleasant.

Hi Lianne, We had a fabulous time. Everything went smoothly with all our transfers & accommodation bookings. We even had great weather, except for one day which was the day on the train which didn’t matter at all. We couldn’t be happier with the way it all came together. Thanks for a great job in organising everything so perfectly. Will definitely pass your email on if anyone I know is planning a holiday in Africa. Leila Hallinan

The Ilana hotel was lovely too, gracious, spacious, great service and food in a great location with a fabulous view of the "smoke". We walked to the falls and saw the Victoria Falls Hotel, the Tourist Police were wonderful at keeping the hawkers at b ay with their goods including Zimbabwe 5,000,000.00 notes!! I loved the flights on the small aircraft, with the take offs and landings giving us a birds eye view of the various areas, I saw Water Buffalo, Giraffes and Elephants from the air.

Victoria Falls Hotel was fantastic. It is a beautiful place. Staff were courteous and most helpful. We cruised the Zambezi river, rode elephants, walked with lions, petted cheetahs, and walked all around the falls. Travelers need to know that men must wear long sleeved shirts to enter the main dining room. Again a detail we were not aware of.

Victoria Falls was a great trip. I wasn't sure what to expect in Zimbabwe, but the service was exceptional at the hotel and the tours. My mother was taken care of VERY well by everyone. The only negative was the poor Christmas Eve dinner at the Li vingstone Room in the hotel. The turkey was a highly salted turkey roll and really unedible, and the other courses were weak.

Dear Catherine, Please excuse me for being so tardy in responding to you. It has been crazy since we got home. Let me say that I really appreciated your lovely birthday e-mail. Toka Leya wanted to make our stay wonderful. They arranged their dr ivers to take us to Livingston Island, the lunar rainbow and any place we wanted to see in town. have a question regarding the lunar rainbow. The fee is actually $30 US to enter the park, so the other $60 or $65 was for the transportation to get there and Toka Leya did it all. I never heard from Wild Horizons about the transport to lunar rainbow or the Livingston Island. I was also told there is an airport at Vic Falls. I'm assuming they do not have as many flights as Livingston. I am not complaining--only wondering. It was very hot when we traveled. The highlight of my birthday was Livingston Island. The right time to be on the island is for the 9:30 breakfast. Our friends had told us that. At that time the rainbow is absolutely fabulous! Later on the sun doesn't hit the spray just right. You will be proud of me. I took my swim suit and went swimming on top of the falls. I have to add that I was on the back of a lovely young man who took me to the edge of the falls. I am really not a good swimmer so this was a real feat for me. At the breakfast the guy decorated the coffee cake and they sang happy birthday to me...so sweet. It was definitely a memorable birthday and your e-mail added to the fun.

Our accommodation was great. Only one small problem at Victoria Falls Hotel- the first room had no safe, we were allocated another room with a great view of Vic Falls and the wonderful spray. The only drawback was the bathroom and electrics had not b een upgraded and was rather noisy! The air conditioning was the most problematic and we were not able to keep it on during the night. We walked from the Victoria Falls Hotel to view the glorious Falls, an amazing experience to hear the thundrous roar of the vast water and to feel the spray before we even saw it!! For us it was particularly poignant as it was a Scot who named them.

The Vic falls hotel is a very good hotel and in a wonderful situation. We got some wonderful views of the falls and gardens from the rooms, even on standards rooms. So definitely worth to mention it at the booking time. Very good restaurant, the livi ngstone room restaurant was also very good, even if nearly empty every night that gives a bit of sad feeling, but very good dinner. The white water rafting was really cool but really cold !!! it was really cold on the boat during the whole activity. The walk to go down the gorge and back up is also very steep, so worth mentionning to people at the booking time. You can also take some stuff with you during the rafting, they have some waterproof bags they take onboard, so you can take some jackets for the cold morning, and then give them to them. We didn't because the Wild Horizons representative told us to go only with swimming suit and T shirts, but we were freezing in the morning before reaching the river. I prefered the short helicopter flight than the longer one of last time. It seemed to me that we spent more time on the falls on this one.

Victoria Falls was worth getting up early for., the lodge was even better than I had expected. It is really charming and 1st rate service, everyone took care of us in grand old-style charm. The room was a great 3-4 star, but the service was definitel y 5 star. The town has nothing to offer, but wild animals, a few wild humans but the beauty of the falls was wonderful. We did sign-up for the helicopter ride over the falls a fantastic moment and worth the $120! The sunset cruise up the Zambezi was also fantastic, saw hipo and crocs as well as getting a bit crocked on the gin!

It is a fine hotel with a proud past, but the problems in Zimbabwe are bringing it down. All hotel services have two prices - a Zimbabwe currency price and a foreign currency price. If you pay in foreign currency, you get a 40% reduction from the Z imbabwe price. This made the price of everything - meals, services, etc very confusing, and the bill very complicated at checkout. Hotel occupancy appeared to be very low (hotel restaurants were almost empty at meal times). Prices for meals were very high. However, despite all of these problems with the hotel, I am glad we stayed there, we would have been curious had we not. And the view of Vic Falls from the Zimbabwe side is magnificient.

A grand old place that was a highlight of the honeymoon. The staff were excellent, as were the facilities. It was astounding. We were told the water volume was the highest it has been in 100 years, due to excessive rainfall in Zambia. I’m also told the Zimbabwe side is the best for viewing. Crossing the border was a bit unnerving, but only cost us $30 each, much less than we’d anticipated. I would especially recommend the Victoria Falls Hotel to anyone visiting the Falls. The elegance and vast history of the place make it a fascinating destination. We spent quite a bit of time just wondering the halls and public rooms, looking at all the interesting pictures and artifacts from the hotel’s history. The property is in beautiful condition, gratifying given the current economic state of the country. The sundowner cruise was a bit slow for our taste, but the sunset was really spectacular. We bought a US dollar’s worth of their money, which came to about 2.5 million of their currency! I feel so bad for those people, and hope the political situation improves for them soon. They are among the nicest people we met. Their new Jungle Junction restaurant for dinner and breakfast was really great. During dinner, they had various African musical groups, which we very much enjoyed. The food was superb and the service beyond first class! We felt like royalty! In retrospect, I wish we’d stayed another night.

It was beautiful. I had a fabulous corner room looking out on the terrace and to the falls. I had them switch me from the "upgraded suite" which, to me, was not near as nice. I don't need a suite with the tv in a separtare room, I am a single perso n! Anyway, I met a fun group of Irish guys on the terrace the first night and had a great evening with them. I did all the activities at the gorge and met another family of 4th generation Zimbabweans who were visiting the Falls. I had High Tea with them at my hotel, then they had me as their guest at The Boma at the Vic FallsSafari Lodge that evening. It was a wonderful day and evening. The Vic Fall Safari Loge is also a very nice hotel where you can watch animals at a water hole while having diner. It has a more African feel that the colonial style hotel I was in but I love the history of the Vic Falls Hotel. My experiences there were memorable.

It was lovely though a bit tired and old. The staff was lovely and tried their best to accommodate us since there was a blackout in the hotel for about 4-6 hours. No problem with us, things happen. If we were to go there in the future, we probably should have gone to the Zambian side and spent a few more days than an overnight stay. It is a very unfair report but I think in the future you should not book anyone on this overnight trip to the falls at least give them some warning of what to expect. We could not get out of Zimbabwe fast enough. I just want to thank you for setting up our trip to be one of those memorable trips of a lifetime.
