Overview of Wayo Manyara Green Camp

Tanzania, Lake Manyara

Deep within Lake Manyara National Park, Wayo Manyara Green Camp offers a unique retreat in one of Tanzania's most diverse and scenic wilderness areas. The park is famed for its tree-climbing lions, a shimmering soda ash lake flocked by thousands of pink flamingos, and one of the largest elephant populations in East Africa. A kaleidoscope of landscapes greets you, from dense forests and acacia woodlands to open savannahs dotted with wildlife. Towering cliffs, algae-streaked hot springs, and the seasonal Endabash Waterfall cascading nearby only add to the allure.

Tucked away in a quiet corner of the park, Wayo Manyara Green Camp creates an intimate and tranquil experience away from the busier main game drive routes. This low-impact, luxurious bush camp blends into its environment, with a limited number of tents designed using locally sourced materials. The tents' gauze mesh walls and ceilings bring the outdoors in, offering uninterrupted views by day and stargazing opportunities by night. Whether gathering around the firepit with your feet in the river sand, on a walking safari or wandering the gravel paths shared with elephants, every aspect of the camp encourages a deeper connection to nature.

Wayo Manyara is particularly great for families with older children, as it offers an array of adventurous activities, but it is also perfect for couples or groups of friends. It is an ideal addition to Tanzania's northern safari circuit, easily combined with premier destinations like the Ngorongoro Crater and Serengeti, and perfectly rounded off with a relaxing Zanzibar beach stay for the ultimate East Africa safari experience. The park shines year-round, offering unique experiences during the rainy and dry seasons alike.

General Facilities

Wayo Manyara Green Camp offers a variety of immersive activities that highlight the stunning landscape and abundant wildlife of Lake Manyara National Park. Walking safaris take centre stage here—fittingly, as “Wayo” translates to “footprint”. Enjoy a leisurely morning amble along the lakeshore with a skilled tracker guide who interprets the animal tracks to recount the previous night's wildlife activity. For the adventurous, full-day hikes ascend the Rift Valley escarpment, rewarding hikers with breathtaking views, while moderate walks, such as exploring the lush Marang Forest, offer a balance of challenge and discovery.

Another standout activity is a canoeing safari on Lake Manyara. Glide along the tranquil waters as you take in magnificent views of elephants, buffalo, giraffes, and other wildlife grazing along the shoreline. The experience is enhanced by the vibrant birdlife and the breathtaking scenery surrounding you. For a completely different perspective, enjoy a night game drive, where you'll explore the park's nocturnal wonders.

Additional activities which can be booked include the Lake Manyara Treetop Walkway, which allows you to explore the forest canopy from heights of up to 18 metres (59 feet), as well as mountain biking safaris and cultural tours. Back at camp, unwind by the firepit beside the seasonal riverbed, enjoy communal dining under the stars, or relax knowing that Wayo Manyara Green Camp prioritizes eco-conscious practices, from its design to its daily operations.

Dining

Mornings start with fresh, energising breakfasts to fuel you for the day's adventures. Lunches are flexible—picnic-style while out exploring or alfresco dining back at camp. Dinners adapt to your schedule, with earlier meals arranged if you're heading out for a night game drive. Evenings often begin with sundowner refreshments, followed by communal dining under the stars, creating convivial moments to share the day's stories.
