Welgelegen House

For travellers who are comfortable being a little more independent, Welgelegen positions you very centrally for easy access to a number of eateries/bars/galleries along Kloof Street and beyond. A wonderful, warm and welcoming team on hand, the space itself creates a sense of homeliness owing to the fact that every space is slightly different with the rooms spread out across two buildings with an inner courtyard and pool between the two. The communal areas are generously spaced and comfortable. All round a wonderful and affordable option for time spent in Cape Town.

Lovely, warm Victorian boutique hotel at the foot of Table Mountain. It has a ‘home away from home’ feel. Rooms are spacious and beautifully designed. Most rooms have a private balcony or patio (with great views of Table Mountain). All rooms except for 2 have both baths and showers.

They have 2 well-designed spacious family rooms which are great for families with younger children.

Breakfast is a lovely spread of cereals, yoghurts, fruit, cold meats, and muffins, followed by a hot breakfast of choice.

Welgelegen has a new in-house vehicle and guides for tailor-made tours. This needs to be pre-booked as space is subject to availability.

They have instilled a new community fee which is used for staff housing and development (e.g.: upskilling their staff; providing the staff’s children with school fees, and housing the staff close to work to ensure they do not have to worry about travelling long and late hours).

Great location, amazing staff, and beautifully designed hotel! Overall fantastic option for Cape Town accommodation.

This elegant boutique hotel is truly a home away from home, the friendly staff and warm decorative finishes allows guests to feel welcome. It is a lovely place to relax and unwind or, because of its central location, is a great base from which guests can take a stroll through the city and visit some of the well-renowned restaurants or buzzing bars in the area. Welgelegen is a great value-for-money option for families or couples.

An old-style Victorian home with a Bohemian touch, Welgelegen is perfect for those guests who want a homely feel, with baked goodies and afternoon drinks available daily.

We were greeted warmly by Fiona and her team and to a bottle of champagne in our beautiful front-facing room. The B&B was perfect and the staff was so warm! And the breakfast was delicious!

We did have a wonderful time in Cape Town. A very quaint, cozy and comfortable old building… WOW also special mention of Karen and Fiona… two fabulous ladies and the rest of the staff.

The Welgelegen Guest House experience was great too. The entire staff, especially Alex, attended to all our queries and requests efficiently. We loved the breakfast served every morning and the feeling of exclusivity and peacefulness of the place, compared to staying in a regular hotel.

Welgelegen Guest House – very nice room and the breakfast was wonderful. The staff is very friendly, including the manager Fiona, who went out of her way to introduce herself to us. The location was great. Last time we were in Cape Town we stayed at the Waterfront, which was good for our first time in Cape Town as there was so much to do and no shortage of places to eat and walk around. This time, we really enjoyed being in more of the “suburbs.” The guest house being walking distance from Kloof St made it easy to walk to dinner, while also being tucked away and quiet at night. Having dinner at the restaurants where it seemed there were not many tourists made for a better experience than the large crowded atmosphere of the Waterfront.

The Welgelegen is terrific!

Cape Town was awesome and we made the most our time there with the rental car seeing all the main sights of Cape Town, Robben Island, winery visits and a day-long trip to Cape Point and the penguins at Boulders Beach. The trip started the afternoon we arrived with a free concert in the park walking distance from our hotel with FreshlyGround playing, sunset on top of Table Mountain and dinner at the harbor.

Welgelegen – This place was charming. It's a hidden gem. I love the cozy feeling of the place. It makes you feel at home the moment you step in. I love that it is close to everything, but not in a tourist trap! It was wonderful that we could easily find parking near our guesthouse for our rental car with no worries. I loved the honor system for the bar in the evenings. I loved the freshness of the continental breakfast, and the service was quick but not pushy for tea, coffee and hot breakfast. The people were so accommodating and helpful.

Our accommodation at Welgelegen Guest House was perfect, the staff were very friendly and willing to provide any assistance we may have needed. They served wonderful breakfasts and each night left us a good night card with the weather for the following day and 2 chocolates. The location was great, we walked to Kloof Street most evenings for dinner. We also visited the waterfront a few times for meals, shopping and tours.
We loved the sidecar adventure tour. We did this after having time to unwind and having a guide just for us really helped introduce us to Cape Town. The hop on hop off red route bus was also great, which we took to Table Mountain.

Welgelegen in Cape Town was really nice.

Welgelegen – the room was exactly what we wanted after a safari, with nice views of Table Mountain and a double vanity in the bathroom. We liked the location since we could walk to dinner every night. Breakfast was fine. The staff was great and helpful – they helped us arrange a private tour of the Cape and a winery tour and booked our tickets for Table Mountain.

Our first experience with South African Hospitality was at Welgelegen Guest House… Colleen and staff were most accommodating, pleasant & ready to help with restaurant reservations and things to see. In fact our first night was one we still talk about… upon returning from dinner at Miller’s Thumb ( excellent food ) we noticed the bed was nice and warm. Once in bed it was very toasty and once I had stretched out my legs I noticed something at the foot of the bed. To our surprise there was a hot water bottle! The remaining nights at Welgelegen Guest House were very toasty.

We loved this small boutique hotel. We loved the special touches that they offered from a warm water bottle in our bed at nightly turn down to the weather and temperature for the following day. Fiona, the owner was present and helpful. The staff were warm and friendly. Alex, the person there at night even made us sandwiches when we arrived at 11 pm because we had been traveling for over 30 hours and he said most restaurants were closed in the area. We would definitely stay there again and were very happy with everything. It had a nice view of the mountain and was walking distance to Kloof street. We did take taxis to the waterfront. We thought that Ilios tours were very professional and were happy with their service. We felt that 4 nights was the perfect amount of time and were were ready for wine country after that.

Welgelegen – make it a hat trick of superb accommodation! Loved the quirkiness and ambiance of this place. Felt very relaxed. Good location. Obviously when in a strange big city, safety is a concern so it was good to feel safe in that neighbourhood and be able to walk to restaurants. Fiona and her team were extremely helpful and accommodating.

Every place was clean and quite comfortable. The food was exceptional and of the highest quality at all of our resorts. The location in Cape Town was close to major attractions and the hop on hop off bus stops.

We visited wonderful places and the hotels / lodges were amazing.

Fiona & her staff go out of their way to help. Well situated between Table Mountain & the historical tourist sites. Superb breakfast, we would gladly recommend Welgelegen to our friends.

The guest house in Cape Town was beautiful and both Fiona and Colleen, were the friendliest and most helpful hostesses we have met. They booked taxi’s, restaurants and tours and nothing was too much trouble. They even had their night manager Mathew, bring us coffee at 3am the morning we were leaving.

Just a quick note to tell you that I finally fell in love with our gues house in Cape Town. It had heritage, and was so nice decorated! The manager and the owner were so kind!

Welgelegen – lovely guest house for our first nights in Cape Town. The room was comfortable, and staff were friendly and welcoming.

We could not be happier with it’s location in Cape Town. The street was quiet and well situated among parks and gardens allowing us to go for comfortable walks at our leisure. The staff at Welgelegen really made our stay there memorable, from the quality of food at breakfast to their help in guiding us around city. It may sound odd, but we didn’t feel like tourists while staying there.

Welgelegen was gorgeous and the breakfast spreads were just as appealing. Fiona and Colleen were so helpful with making our dinner reservations.

In Cape Town, the Welgelegen Guest House is very lovely. Although my stay was very short, I felt at home. My room was on the second floor and the window is to Table Mountain. I really would have loved to stay longer.

After seeing the bustling V&A Waterfront area, we were so happy that we chose to stay in the City Bowl at Welgelegen. Our hosts at the hotel were very kind and helpful, the breakfasts were fantastic and our room was extremely cozy with a balcony that looked straight out to Table Mountain – we could even see the cable car from our room! This hotel was also very convenient to Kloof street where we ate dinner each evening.

The Welgelegen Guest House was well situated with easy access to local restaurants on Kloof Street and an easy walk to the hop-on hop-off bus tour lines. Anine and Fiona were wonderful as was the rest of the staff.

Our favourite was Welgelegen Guest House – utterly charming, great location, fantastic accommodation and service and wonderful breakfasts.

The service was amazing. The staff at Welgelegen were so helpful in assisting me plan my stay in Cape Town. As I was suddenly there alone I had to think of my visit much differently than Venessa and I had planned. The service at the Welgelegen and Simbambilli were the best I had ever experienced anywhere.

Cape Town was gorgeous! The staff at Welgelegen Guest House were great. They recommended restaurants, made a reservation for us at Belthazar where my husband and I had the best fillet we ever eaten. I liked the accommodations at the Welgelgen House. My husband has decided he would prefer a hotel over a guesthouse, but I liked the property and would recommend it to friends.

Cape Town is probably the most beautiful city in the world, and Welgelegen House was so beautiful and warm. Fiona and her staff were so friendly, the decor was fabulous, and the food was delicious. It was nice to be in a home away from home for a few nights.

The guest house was quiet and nice with a really helpful staff. They were ready to help you any way that they could. A short walk offered a varied array of restaurants that we enjoyed. The city backdrop is stunning.

Cape Town – lovely hotel – great innkeeper. Great location. Wished we had be warned about the stairs however. It was a most fabulous vacation, one of the best I have ever had, never to be forgotten. Thanks again for putting it together for us.

Welgelgen was great – the people, guesthouse ambience, room and brekkie. I’m glad we didn’t stay at the waterfront in the end as it was a little too busy and commercial for us. Capetown is beautiful also, very easy
to pre-book taxis – and the food! My word it was incredible.

Everything went so smoothly, all the transfers worked out great! We had a great time in Cape Town at the Welgelegen. The people were so nice there. A trip to Africa has always been on my ‘bucket list’ and now I can say ‘I did it and it was everything I thought it would be’. You did a wonderful job covering all the details. We had no problems with any of our reservations or transfers and everyone was very friendly and accommodating. I enjoyed the Welgelegen Guest House (although I still can’t pronounce it) and would recommend it to other people. The location was very desirable with Table Mountain in the background, plus we could walk to several restaurants. The Bombay Bicycle Club was fun, delightful, and very good food. Cape Town is a beautiful city and the weather co-operated so we could take the cable car up to Table Mountain.

Kudos to Fiona and her staff at the Welgelegen – what a homey, comfortable place. Fiona arranged for a couple of tours for us – the wine country and Cape Point – both were very enjoyable.

Cape Town was amazing. We both loved it there and can’t wait to go back. Even though we had four full days there, I feel like we didn’t even scratch the surface of everything that city has to offer. The Welgelegen was fantastic. Fiona and staff were so friendly and accommodating. We also loved the location as some of the best meals of the entire trip were up on Kloof street (Cafe Paradiso and Toni’s). Everyone from Illios was also fantastic. The guides were super knowledgeable and friendly.

The accommodation in Cape Town was also great and the owner and satff were very helpful.

Welgelegen: a wonderful guest house. Again we were made to feel completely at home. Anine, Fiona and Danielle were very helpful, and the ladies in the kitchen made a wonderful breakfast. The house is beautiful, and we felt we could make ourselves comfortable just about anywhere; out by the pool, in the lounge, on the front porch. We loved the complimentary bottle of port in the room, and also the complimentary port/sherry in the lounge before going out to dinner. They were happy to arrange our transport to various restaurant etc. Again we were sad to leave.

The accommodations were all quite nice. We found the hosts at Welgelgen most helpful as we planned our days around Cape Town.

Just wanted to tell you so far that the trip has been amazing and we have loved the accommodations. The upgrade in CapeTown was so nice.

Our next stop was Welgelegen Guest House and I LOVE LOVE LOVE what Fiona has done with this house. It is beautifully decorated and appointed and the staff, yet again, was great. Our room was beautiful and quite comfortable with a great view of Table Mountain. Fiona was very friendly and wanted to make sure that we were happy with our accomodations. I also liked the fact that it’s located in a kind of closed-off street and there are restaurants within walking distance or you could have food delivered if it was more convenient.

The Welgeleton staff were so accommodating and kind.

We had a great vacation, generally. Time spent in Cape Town was memorable. Welgelegen Guest House people were very warm and took excellent care of us. The local tours in Cape Town were quite an experience.

A lovely place to stay and deserves all the praise that it gets, would certainly stay there again, and I’m sure we will be back as two days is nowhere near long enough, especially as it chucked it down the second day we were there and were unable to visit Robben Island.

Welgelegen was great. However, they should have that fireplace going each morning during breakfast on cold, rainy days.

We all loved the place we stayed in Cape Town. That was a great choice and I would recommend it to anyone. The place itself was very neat and the staff was all so friendly and very helpful. They helped us arrange transportation one day to go to Cape Point and to see the penguins. It was cool to see the penguins. I’m glad you arranged a private wine tour for us. It was a lot of fun.

We enjoyed our guest house, even though we still cannot say the name! We liked that it was in walking distance to downtown. If you put people there again (which I’m sure you will), you should tell them to check out Mama Africa’s. We saw an excellent band play there one night. We also spent one day on a wine tour and some time just at the Waterfront. The lady from our guest house recommended we go check out some film festival so we did that too – that was a cool experience.

The Welgelgen B&B was beautiful. It was warm and friendly. The staff had excellent local knowledge. I loved the decor!

The Welgelegan hotel and staff is a lovely friendly place, and is a place that is where I will recommend easily to anyone.

We appreciated the fact that the Welgelegen, with its similar ambiance and easy parking, was in such a good location – near restaurants and shops and Table Mountain, where we spent a lovely couple of hours before the mist covered it over.

Welgelegen Guest House in The Grace Cottage was lovely accommodation in a great location. We felt very safe in the area and it was great that we could walk to and from good restaurants on Kloef Street. The cottage was very well furnished, had two bedrooms and would have been ideal for two couples staying a week or so in Cape Town. The staff were helpful and friendly. There was so much to do in Cape Town. We would really highly recommend the Welgelegen Guest House.

We loved the Bed and Breakfast that you chose for us. Wonderful staff, comfortable accommodations, good food, and nice ‘extras’ recognizing our honeymoon. They were all delightful.
