The Fynbos Cottages (fynbos is a specific type of heather found within the Cape Floral Kingdom) are set further from the main buildings at Babylonstoren to ensure privacy for more adventurous guests who love nature. Designed in the Cape Dutch vernacular, they adjoin the lush orchards and verdant vineyards of the working farm, and overlook the farm dam. Birders should be on the look out for up to 78 different species, including elusive African fish eagles, a species rarely heard around Cape Town.
There are four 2-bedroom cottages and two 1-bedroom units, making them ideal for small families or couples. A larger group may want to reserve all of the cottages for a special holiday or celebration.
The Fynbos Cottages have an exclusive-use leisure area known as The Pool Room. Fynbos guests have free rein in the lounge, bar and plunge pool, which is surrounded by natural water pools. Here you can enjoy time under the South African sun while savouring tea brewed from freshly picked herbs or a glass of special Babylonstoren wine among other delicious drinks.
With only 12 rooms available at Babylonstoren, you'll always enjoy a private, exclusive stay.
The exteriors of the suites are white-washed and built in the traditional Cape Dutch style, with gables and thatched roofs while the interiors are clean, contemporary, and spacious. In the summer months, the predominantly white decor and furnishings allow for a cool atmosphere, while during winter, the rooms are heated by the open hearths.
High ceilings and hand-picked furniture give the rooms a contemporary feel while maintaining the historical flair.
The exclusive private suites feature beautiful glass-fronted kitchens and exquisitely furnished interiors and are ideal for the more discerning traveller. The restored Manor House dates back to 1777, and is available for exclusive use.
The spa area is situated between the garden and the vineyards, offering a beautiful environment in which to relax and unwind. The Hammam treatment offers an elaborate treatment in their traditionally designed room. There is also a plunge pool, steam room, sauna and private treatment rooms.
The farm dam is a wonderful place for a refreshing swim or some leisurely time spent paddling in a canoe. You can also go swimming in the main pool – a reservoir that has been restored.
The gym boasts modern equipment and overlooks the garden, giving the active travellers a great place to work out.
The comfortable, welcoming lounge area is the ideal place to curl up with a book in front of a crackling fire.

Babylonstoren is absolutely phenomenal! We plan to go back and spend some time there, one of my favorite places.
This is a fascinating place and we could have stayed longer. The rooms are really cottages and the mini kitchen where you could cook for yourself was a pleasant surprise. We would have done this if we had stayed longer. All the cottages have a real fire which they will light for you in the evening which was very nice. We did have issues with a lack of hot water during our stay. We ate at both restaurants and they were good.
It would be impossible to single out what I loved most about Babylonstoren, however, the lush gardens quite literally took my breath away, and in my opinion, there is no better way to explore this beauty than on the complimentary bikes left for guests. What made Babylonstoren stand out the most for me was the attention to detail in every room, the modern finishes with hints of Africa were very appealing, and the farm boots that were left in the rooms for the guests to explore the gardens were an incredibly personal touch, as the boots were left in each guest’s shoe size and I simply adored the large wooden swings in the kitchens and/or verandas. Perfect for those Kodak moments, much like the rest of the farm. I could not fault this experience. It far exceeded all my expectations. A must-stay/visit for international, or local guests.
I absolutely loved Babylonstoren, and found it perfect for both couples and families. It has so much to offer, with unique activities such as constructing your own fragrance and collecting herbs for tea making. The basic, farm-like exterior of each room made the beautiful, modern inside a wonderful surprise. Each room is very spacious with huge glass windows filling the space with natural light. The spa is among the trees offering an unforgettable experience. There is a garden restaurant that offers a more casual alternative if one does not want to go the the fine-dining restaurant, Babel.
Our jaws dropped when we arrived and roamed around the extensive beautiful gardens with a gin tonic in hand while we waited for our rooms. It felt like the garden of Eden. Absolute paradise! My mum honestly had tears in her eyes as we were shown our room. The room was so delightfully furnished – all in African/Dutch cottage chique theme – flowers, fruit and wine bottles for our consumption everywhere! Such attention to detail by even popping in a hot water bottle inside the bed at turn down service! Just fantastic service.
The activities included on the farm where also extreemly interesting (the garden walk in particular) and we really felt that the staff were not rushed and took extra time to spend with us to answer questions etc… We asked if one evening we could have a sunset picnic and like magic they arranged it all for us and even set it up. Talk about royal treatment! It was definitely a highlight. Delicious food and wine with a stunning setting in nature. Exquisite grounds, infrastructure and produce!
