Black Rhino is a really great place for couples looking to get away because most of the rooms are privately situated quite far away from each other. There’s some great nature sightings from The Hide and the main restaurant area also looks out over the watering hole. That being said our stay there was met with a few problems:
– The pool facing rooms are ridiculous if you haven’t booked out all three for a family / couples. You can see straight into each other’s bedrooms from across the way and can be very awkward if you’re staying across from a complete stranger.
– The rooms themselves all have different levels of amenities. Some are quite modern but others are old with old big box televisions etc.
– The Boma area is really nothing special compared to other lodges that have laid them out to look like they’re at least part of the bush. This Boma is right next to the pool area.
Overall, there are better options in the Black Rhino Reserve or Pilanseberg as a whole but what it lacks in some accommodation it makes up for in great game viewing and friendly guides and staff.

The Black Rhino lodge was superb and everything from the catering to the game drives and overall friendliness and professionalism of staff was outstanding.
Enjoyed it very much
