Gorongosa Expedition Camp
Expedition Camp offers a private and flexible way to explore some of the most remote parts of Gorongosa National Park, one of Africa’s most remarkable conservation and restoration landscapes. Operating as an exclusive-use mobile camp, it gives guests access to areas that are rarely visited, with a dedicated guide, private vehicle and a strong focus on walking safaris and exploration.
Each stay is shaped around the landscape and the interests of your group. Guided walks and game drives explore Gorongosa’s diverse ecosystems, from floodplains and woodlands to the remote Bunga Plains where wildlife sightings may include elephant, lion, hippo, crocodile and an impressive variety of birdlife. Along the way, guests gain insight into the conservation, research and community initiatives helping restore Gorongosa’s ecosystems and support local livelihood.
The camp is particularly well-suited to adventurous travellers, repeat safari-goers and those looking for a more immersive and adventurous way to experience Gorongosa. With only a limited number of departures each year, it offers a rare opportunity to explore one of Africa’s most important conservation landscapes with the flexibility of a fully private safari.

The expedition-style tents are designed to keep the focus on the surrounding wilderness while still providing a comfortable place to return to after a day of exploration. Set up exclusively for your group in remote areas of the park, they offer a strong sense of privacy and connection to the landscape.
Each tent includes comfortable beds, a mobile wash basin, and practical safari comforts suited to the mobile camp environment. The simple design allows the sights, sounds and atmosphere of Gorongosa to remain a constant part of your stay. A separate bathroom is set up for the tents.
The camp is designed to keep the focus on time spent exploring the park. Shared dining and lounge areas are set up wherever the camp is based, creating comfortable spaces to connect after walks, drives and full days spent out in the field.
A private guide, dedicated vehicle and camp team allow each stay to remain flexible, while the smaller scale of the camp creates opportunities for more personal wildlife encounters. Conservation and community experiences can also be incorporated into the itinerary, offering insight into the restoration work, scientific research and local development projects that form an important part of Gorongosa’s story.

Meals are served in the camp’s communal outdoor dining spaces, where the atmosphere reflects the informal nature of the experience. Days often begin with an early breakfast before heading into the field, while evenings are spent sharing stories around the table after a day spent exploring the park.
Menus focus on fresh, hearty meals suited to active days outdoors, with dining centred around the rhythm of the safari rather than fixed schedules. The experience feels welcoming and uncomplicated, allowing the focus to remain on the landscapes, wildlife and discoveries of the day.
