Greystoke Mahale is a remote tented camp in the chimp-inhabited forests of the Mahale Mountains in West Tanzania. The camp stands at the base of the densely forested Mahale Mountains National Park on a remote beach and along the shores of Lake Tanganyika.This area is home to the world’s largest known population of chimpanzees. Trek through the rainforest where Mahale’s endangered chimpanzees live, while leopard, bushbuck, bush pig, and a variety of birds and butterflies can also be spotted. The lake, with 250 species of tropical fish, is perfect for snorkelling and fishing, as well as kayaking.
This unique lodge captures the essence of adventure, immersing guests in Africa's untamed wilderness, where hippos patrol the lakes and rainforested mountains rise dramatically from the shores. We all agreed that Greystoke Mahale was absolutely the highlight of our trip. Not only is this place situated in a secluded, idyllic setting, but there is so much to do apart from the chimp trekking. It was truly magical – we loved it.
