Overview of Little Mombo

Botswana, Okavango Delta

Set in the shade of enormous trees, Little Mombo Camp is perfectly positioned at the heart of the Okavango Delta and offers some of the best game viewing in Botswana. The little sister of legendary Mombo Camp and situated on the same game-packed island, Little Mombo – with only three luxurious tented suites in camp – offers a far more intimate safari experience and is ideal for honeymooners and romantics or groups of friends and family.

Explore your spectacular surroundings on morning and afternoon game drives accompanied by professional and highly knowledgeable guides.Keep your eyes open for big game such as lion, elephant, buffalo and an even keener eye out for Mombo’s rarer species such as rhino, wild dog and cheetah. After an exciting day of game viewing, you can relax and cool off in the swimming pool and enjoy sundowners and snacks at the bar or around the traditional campfire.

Children will be delighted by the Bush Buddy programme, which sees them learn exciting new skills and facts from a specially trained staff mentor.

Standard Twin Tent

The three spacious and luxurious tented suites at Little Mombo Camp are connected by raised wooden walkways but spaced well apart for guaranteed privacy.

The large, elegantly designed and decorated suites feature a large four-poster bed draped in mosquito netting, a writing desk with a view and a generous en-suite bathroom with both an indoor and outdoor shower. The suites open onto private decks and an even more private sala and day bed along another raised walkway.

General Facilities

Little Mombo’s beautifully decorated central area consists of a lounge and dining area overlooking the floodplain in front of camp. You can enjoy a meal or a drink here while gazing out over this unique landscape although the small library and reading room – built into enormous tree trunks – has arguably the best view in camp.

Raised wooden decks surround the central area and provide an excellent vantage point for watching passing animals and ticking off dozens of bird species. The deck leads down to the firepit and traditional boma, the venue for starlit drinks and tall stories.

Little Mombo’s swimming pool is surrounded by a deck and features a convenient poolside bar, and you can relax on the day beds in the shade of the sala.

As part of the Bush Buddy programme, youngsters can assist in the camp kitchen with simple, safe tasks, enjoy child-friendly bush walks and new moves with drumming or dancing lessons.

Dining

Wake up to a light continental breakfast before your morning game drive and enjoy a wholesome brunch afterwards when you have had time to work up an appetite. An extravagant and delicious afternoon tea is served before your afternoon safari activity.

The evening’s 3-course dinner is often served around the fire in the outdoor boma under the stars, but meals at Little Mombo are a moveable feast and can be served in a number of creative, out-of-camp locations.

I think David and I liked Little Mombo the best for the sheer diversity of wildlife and because it felt so remote yet luxurious.

Everything at Mombo was serene. The “tent”, food, service and attitude of the staff. This must be the best place on earth to safari.
