Overview

Little Ongava is a luxurious thatched lodge built on the crest of a hill with wonderful views. The lodge is in the Ongava Game Reserve, a private 30 000-hectare conservation area that lies on the southern boundary of Namibia's flagship Etosha National Park, and offers a comprehensive wildlife experience.

Little Ongava boasts both black and white rhino in its private reserve as well as a healthy predator population, particularly lions. There are only three suites here, each with a private plunge rim-flow pool that leads directly off your spacious bedroom through glass doors and looks out onto the plains below. This is the ideal lodge for couples or small families who want to reserve the entire property on an exclusive-use basis.

The waterhole in front of the lodge attracts many animals - especially in the winter dry season from about June to October - and the birdlife, even within camp, is spectacular. A professional guide accompanies you on day and night drives through the Ongava Reserve as well as in neighbouring Etosha, and you can also enjoy guided nature walks, perhaps being lucky enough to come across rhino during your hike!

Rooms

Luxury Suite

Each incredibly spacious thatched suite has a large bedroom and a separate lounge area, both with floor-to-ceiling glass doors that lead onto a private deck with its own rim-flow plunge pool and a sala - ideal for watching passing animals and for keeping an eye on the teeming waterhole. The stylish en suite bathroom also offers incredible views, particularly from the bathtub and outdoor shower.

Facilities

The main lodge area at Little Ongava is made from stone, thatch and canvas and contains a cosy lounge with an enormous stone fireplace as well as the dining area. Both rooms lead onto the deck overlooking the camp's waterhole that regularly attracts all kinds of game as well as providing what seem to be never-ending vistas of the Namibian landscape.

Dining

Meals at Little Ongava are taken under thatch in the cosy lounge and dining area or out on the deck under the African night sky while you watch animals come to drink at the floodlit waterhole.

Little Ongava was as luxurious as promised. We felt pampered. The only disappointment was that we were looking forward to wifi in our villa (as advertised) and apparently there has not been wifi available in the villas for quite some time. The wif i in the dining area/lounge barely worked (maybe 20% of the time). The staff said that it was difficult to get technicians to respond to Ongava because of the remote location. Of course you don't go on safari to hang out on wifi but we were planning on FaceTiming with our family while in Little Ongava and that did not happen. Had we not been expecting to have this amenity then we would not have been let down. But other than that one issue it was very nice.

Little Ongava • Service – great if one likes the homey feel of a small place with a very professional ‘grandfather’ manager • Rooms – spacious and very elegant • Communal areas – good enough given size of place • Internet access – missing in room s (they are fixing it) but good in lobby • Food - good • Beverages – good but basic wine • Game drives/activities – very good in reserve, Etosha is a waste of time in this season • Guides - solid • Logistics – no issue

We had an incredible time! We loved Serra Cafema and Little Ongava in particular. The accommodation and game viewing at Little Ongava were even better than we had hoped for. In particular, the evening chef prepared some truly to notch dinners - and given my husband is a chef himself he is a pretty discerning audience.

"Little Ongava was fantastic. We enjoyed the exclusive feel to it and the friendly staff. We saw a lot of game and the thrill was the pride of 14 lions that we came across. The 3 days was the right choice for us."
