Overview of Machangulo Beach Lodge
In a secluded location on the southern Mozambican coastline, Machangulo Beach Lodge is set high up on a dune in a Private Nature Reserve on a peninsula, straddling the Indian Ocean on one side and the calm estuaries of Maputo Bay on the other. The lodge has a laid-back atmosphere, and is nestled on a hillside in dense evergreen thickets, overlooking endless ocean vistas. It is located around an hour’s boat ride from the capital Maputo, making it highly accessible, and can also be reached by road on a scenic 4×4 transfer from the Kruger.
A wide variety of activities can be enjoyed for all ages and skill levels: swimming, snorkel and SUP off the shore, explore the 1km long house reef or head out to the various dive sites, kayak the mangrove estuaries or try your hand at one of the world class catch-and-release fishing sites. On land walk kilometres of pristine beach, hike the dunes, visit the local village’s beach bar or take a trip to the nearby islands.

Ocean View Room
Machangulo Beach Lodge features five premium ocean-view rooms, two beach villas and two family villas. Premium rooms are perched high on the hillside and private wooden decks allow you to spend leisurely days enjoying secluded and tranquil views over the ocean, lagoon and bay. The spacious, Crusoe-chic suites have king-sized beds and air conditioning, and are located a 2-minute walk from the beach, though bare in mind there are quite a nunber of stairs to walk back up.
OTHER ROOMS
Beach villas are set a stone’s throw from the ocean’s edge and are ideal for smaller groups or anyone with mobility issues. The villas consist of two generous bedrooms with en suite bathrooms, separated by a large wooden deck with partial sea views.
For larger groups, the family villas offer extra space, privacy and flexibility. Two private rooms with en suite bathrooms lead off from an open-plan living area with a lounge, bar, dining area and kitchenette. The double-tiered wooden deck has a private plunge pool and ocean views.
General Facilities
The lower deck has a plunge pool and activities desk where all your organised activities will depart from, equipment in hand, as well as a restaurant for a casual barefoot lunch.
The upper deck sports a bar, sunken lookout lounge and restaurant where breakfast and dinner is served overlooking the incredible bay and ocean.

The restaurant’s specialities are sourced from the local market of fresh supplies and are prepared with local Portuguese-inspired flair: think spicy peri-peri prawns, fish of the day, zesty calamari and crab curries, as well as other set menu options.
