Lying a short flight away from Victoria Falls, Musango Camp offers adventurous travellers an opportunity to go off the beaten track and enter a world where the wilderness still reigns supreme. Set overlooking the deep waters of Lake Kariba, this 8-tent camp sits on a private island next to the Matusadona National Park, one of the wildest and least visited reserves in Zimbabwe. It is a rugged landscape of mountains, giant riverside trees and towering clouds, matched by the size of the wildlife – this is big game country where elephant, buffalo and hippo pass by camp and where lions, hyenas and leopards fill the night with their calls.
Musango aims to deliver a comprehensive safari experience, mixing morning and afternoon game drives with boat safaris on the lake, guided walks with armed rangers, fishing expeditions and a sailing tour. There is also a chance to visit a local village for insight into how the local Tonga people have carved out a niche for themselves next to the lake. Expert local guides lead the way, communicating their knowledge and passion for the environment.
Surrounded by an electric fence, the camp welcomes children and has a swimming pool and plenty to do including hunting for fossils and feeding the catfish at night, which is always a hit with the younger ones. Musango also knows how to do romance: there are two honeymoon suites on offer, each with a private pool and secluded terrace.
