Tucked away in a riverine forest on the edge of an oxbow lake, Muzimu Lodge offers an intimate retreat into one of Mozambique's most celebrated eco-transformations. Gorongosa National Park is widely regarded as one of Africa's greatest wildlife restoration stories. This region now shines as a beacon of the country’s conservation efforts, boasting a million acres of pristine wilderness. The park has become home to thriving populations of lion, antelope, elephant and pangolin.

Gorongosa is globally recognised as one of the most biodiverse places on earth, showcasing a wide-range of ecosystems and varied microclimates creating an unforgettable safari experience. As you traverse undulating savannah biomes on guided walking safaris, you'll witness large herds of antelope as they cross the plains, while boating excursions (available in the early green season) see you navigating winding rivers teeming with hippos and crocodiles. Game drives will bring you closer to key sightings, with the chance to spot wild dogs as they traverse among the thickets of the bush.

Canvas Tent

The tents blend canvas sheeting with wooden supports, harmonising effortlessly with the landscape. Each unit is built on an elevated deck and connected to the main areas by wooden walkways, creating a seamless flow between communal and private spaces. The deck is furnished with an outdoor dining set and plump beanbags, inviting you to sip coffee as you take in private views of the reserve.

Rooms are available with either double or twin-sized beds, making them ideal for couples or friends sharing. Each room is equipped with a fan and mosquito net for an undisturbed night’s rest. The en-suite bathroom features a rain shower and double vanity.

The outdoor firepit invites cosy sundowners and the sharing of highlights from the day's wildlife sightings. A plunge pool features shaded chaise lounges, inviting you to sip on signature cocktails as you soak in the sun between dips.     When I chose Mozambique and the Gorongosa area it was based on seeing the Greg Clark 60 Minutes’ documentary. I can now say that the experience was well beyond my expectations. First, the land in the Gorongosa area is beautiful and varied. The Muzimu Tented Camp was first rate in the accommodations, food preparation, guides and total staff. My family was able to see many different wildlife as well as other experiences such as visiting the main camp with its research labs and visiting a beautiful waterfall going through towns and seeing all the children greeting us with waving hands and excitement.

    After many trips to Africa, I will recommend that you can and should put Mozambique on your destination list.
